Top Linux foundations to merge
linux-watch.com — With Linux growing by leaps and bounds, it only makes sense that two of the top organizations that guide its growth are finally joining forces. If all goes well, sometime next month the Open Source Development Labs (employer of Linux luminaries Linus Torvalds and Andrew Morton) and the Free Standards Group will merge to form the Linux Foundation.

This could be big... I mean, after Stuart Cohen got pressured to leave (he supported the Novell/Microsoft fling, despite membership of companies like RH in the OSDL) there ought to be some meaningful reformation. Nothing to do with IP, one would hope. Unification is more important. SCO and Ballmer's FUD are just distractions.- deviceguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the other hand, I think it's "interesting" to see the Linux Foundation's "spin" of this as forming an org to rival Microsoft, as opposed to the less glorious reality of two struggling org's pooling their resources to become more efficient. That noted, however, it makes more sense for these groups to be one, imo. As might be expected, the non-tech media are loving the sensationalist "group forms to make Linux rival Windows" angle. ;-)
