- kd420, on 01/23/2009, -2/+124Nice list, maybe I'll stop using Internet Explorer under Wine and try this "Mozilla Firefox".
- Xiata, on 01/23/2009, -13/+47"GIMP is the Linux alternative to Adobe Photoshop"
Buried as inaccurate. - fiverock2, on 01/23/2009, -0/+33dude... I believe it was sarcasm.
- Azathothh, on 01/23/2009, -1/+26Tux Racer ;)
- Whackly, on 01/23/2009, -2/+22irony recognition fail
- RevFredSanford, on 01/23/2009, -3/+20I agree but thumbs down for the use of fail
- omgitsmit, on 01/23/2009, -2/+18#1 on the list should be a alternative to shotty web server
- twiztidsinz, on 01/23/2009, -2/+17Pong. Risk. Space Invaders.
- SpectreFire, on 01/23/2009, -0/+15These aren't Linux alternatives. They're open source alternatives.
The author makes it sound like they're only available if you get Linux. - fxu1989, on 01/23/2009, -0/+14http://www.linuxalt.com/
Not a mirror, but pretty much the same thing. Offers the Linux equivalent of Windows programs. - Sharik, on 01/23/2009, -1/+13Medic! ...err mirror!!

- BroWren, on 01/23/2009, -1/+11HA, like your PC can run Crysis anyway! :P
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -0/+9Blender is free. That's a start.
And just because it's a top application doesn't mean that it suits everyone. Some people like Blender better than Maya. - RSAgent007, on 01/23/2009, -17/+27I can't find an alternative to Crysis, Age of Empires, or Fallout 3.
- Whackly, on 01/23/2009, -1/+10Wait... I'm using flock. Do I have to jump off a cliff?
- RumpleForeskin3, on 01/23/2009, -1/+10But can it run Bejeweled?
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 01/23/2009, -5/+14Only noobs use IE. Netscape Navigator on a virtual machine is how you do it.
- norman619, on 01/23/2009, -5/+14No *****. The truth is there is no Linux equivalent to Photoshop or any of the other applications which are part of the CS4 suite. I have been looking for a good non-linear video editing application for Linux and have yet to find one. Please tell me why use Blender and you can use Maya in Linux? Maya is one of the top applications used in the industry.
- av4rice, on 01/23/2009, -0/+9"SeaMonkey: SeaMonkey is based on Firefox Internet browser, but is more stable."
...or it's an application suite of Mozilla products, including the Mozilla browser (upon which Firefox is based). I haven't heard about its comparative stability, but I don't think that's the point of SeaMonkey anyway. - ijwhelan, on 01/23/2009, -0/+9An internal server error has occurred when trying to display the error page (server-error). Please try again later.
You know you have a problem when your server has errors displaying an error page. - Zippo, on 01/23/2009, -1/+9GIMP is still not a viable replacement for Photoshop, unless you're using it to make quick images for the web... its CMYK support is still too weak for quality print.

- twiztidsinz, on 01/23/2009, -7/+15GIMP is almost a Linux alternative to Paint.NET
- roysorlie, on 01/23/2009, -7/+14Server error..
- dusanmal, on 01/23/2009, -6/+13Only reason to say that GIMP is not alternative to Photoshop is software-snobbery. I use both for years. And, I can do anything in one that I want to do in the other. Interface is obviously different but to me equally easy/difficult to use. Only advantage of Photoshop is the fact that it is so well covered by instruction literature that you may learn to use it better/faster. However, GIMP counters that with the option way more important to me: as it is OpenSource you both know exactly what are the inner workings and more importantly you can write your own extensions to it (or use other community available ones) - thus enabling you to potentially do more with GIMP than you could ever do with Photoshop. Can you rewrite Photoshop algorithms to suit you better? - No. In GIMP you can. Can you find anything Photoshop does that GIMP doesn't? - Write your own routine to add it to the GIMP... Can you alter Photoshop to do something it can't "as is"? No. In GIMP you can. The very essence of why OpenSource will always be a better option.
- camg188, on 01/23/2009, -0/+5Maya is excellent software... for a professional.
Amazon lists Maya 7 (2005) for $200. Maya 2009 is $999.
Most people using Blender probably don't use it professionally and can't justify the cost. - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+6/s
- feignNU, on 01/23/2009, -1/+7the summery what? the summery feeling his warm words gave you? The summery weather we've been experiencing since the end of that last cold snap? The summery *what*!? The suspense is killing me, dude.

I can't even make Crysis run in Windows, why would I bother with Linux? Anybody have a beefy ass SLI setup they want to send me so I can play Crysis? ;-) - ayeroxor, on 01/23/2009, -2/+7totally dude

http://righttime2309sucksdicks.com - moppsy, on 01/23/2009, -0/+5You can also install GIMP on a case sensitive filesystem.
You'd think for $700 a pop, Adobe would fix the ~50 files to make it work.
But no! They just change the installer so you can't even fix it yourself. - norman619, on 01/23/2009, -2/+7Exactly! I forgot about that neat little application. Paint.NET is a great general use opensource paint application.
- cptmichael101st, on 01/23/2009, -2/+7hahaha well played
- 4degrees, on 01/23/2009, -1/+6insert cliche list of Linux apps here...

- jamesmcm, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5Not really, GIMP isn't for drawing - you want InkScape for that.

- homercles337, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5FTA: Blender 3D is a high-quality, robust animation program with a steep learning curve...
Steep learning curve means easy to learn. It show learning as a function of time, thus, a steep learning curve means that you learn a lot in a short time.
Stupid people piss me off... - Toshibi, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5You didn't have to set up Photoshop. People just think they need photoshop. They don't. The GIMP is all anyone that isn't working in a professional print shop needs...
