- bumcheekcity, on 01/06/2009, -20/+279HOLY ***** ***** LINUX IS FREE AND OPEN SOURCE WHEREAS MICROSOFT WINDOWS IS A COMMERCIAL LICENSED PRODUCT THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY FOR!!! WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME!?!?
- lowtolerance, on 01/05/2009, -26/+215My girlfriend and I were at Barnes and Noble one day, looking at magazines, when she spotted a magazine that had a DVD with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, and Ubuntu Studio all on one disc. She wanted to know what it was for, and I explained to her that it was an alternative to windows. She couldn't believe they just gave it away. She is not computer literate at all, mind you, but she bought the magazine for the disc, installed it herself, and once she figured out how to install new software, she has been a total convert.
- EnderMB, on 01/06/2009, -19/+134Linux CD's are best used as coasters. I've got a glass of Lemonade on my Fedora CD right now.

- Chris_F, on 01/06/2009, -8/+59Um, I remember someone submitting this very exact same website to dig, with the same exact title at least a year or more ago. Duplicate + Older than hell
- ibrokemyd, on 01/06/2009, -18/+66"doninate"?
Apparently you have to suck at spelling to be a Linux user. - EnderMB, on 01/06/2009, -4/+49Then you're just wasting money.
Unless you're a pirate, then you should be drinking more manly drinks than Lemonade. Go get yourself a beer! - ivantalboys, on 01/06/2009, -2/+44Do not lend or make illegal copies of this software. Or install it on anything unless we give you permission.
- lorenzoamigo, on 01/06/2009, -13/+54I use Ubuntu, but seriosuly, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Digg up something new. Linux fanboys are like a stuck record. - mikeophile, on 01/06/2009, -4/+42That's hot.

- m4csrgh3yk3v, on 01/06/2009, -10/+43It's ok, it's windows mobile, nobody wants it.
- Slacker1031, on 01/06/2009, -9/+41you love it because you didn't have to pay for it? I must be missing something here...
- covertbadger, on 01/06/2009, -5/+34Don't you people ever get bored of cracking the same tired jokes, over and over again? Yawn.

- jeexbit, on 01/06/2009, -0/+27Marry her.
- linuxlucas, on 01/06/2009, -4/+31Don't force your own life on others.
- smotpoker, on 01/06/2009, -3/+30Yep. For the most part Ubuntu variants are identical except for the default desktop environment and some of the accompanying programs (ie Ubuntu and others would use Pidgin for IM by default while Kubuntu would use Kopete).
Since the OS and system utilities are identical for the most part and so much of the software that comes with *buntu is optional and can be easily installed after the OS, tailoring an install CD to fit the basic components of all variants (basically just a few GUIs and some specialized apps that match them) is relatively trivial.
Of course, that likely means they sacrificed a lot of the more obscure/alternative/specialized apps that would normally come on such a cd to make room for multiple desktop environments but since they can be easily installed/updated online via package manager post-install it's not a big deal really - Chrysalii, on 01/06/2009, -6/+33This is the year of Linux - 2003

This is the year of Microsoft Windows...WOO Windows 7 right around the corner YES! - banik2008, on 01/06/2009, -2/+28What about it?
- neko, on 01/06/2009, -0/+24As much as I love Linux, I must agree, I'm using a bunch of my old Ubuntu 7.10 discs as coasters. They look really nice, and it's not like I'll need them now that I have 8.10.

- Hurricane, on 01/06/2009, -3/+24Hot Linux chick :-D
And, yes, you can fit 6 1/2 CD sized ISOs on 1 DVD, not counting that some flavors of Ubuntu are smaller than a CD.
I figure about 8 versions on 1 DVD. - ursername180, on 01/06/2009, -2/+23WHO CARES! I'm in a happy mood today. Digg ups for EVERYONE!
:D - akaCHUCKTAYLORR, on 01/06/2009, -3/+24also we can jump in my delorean and we can gun it to 88 and go back to when this was actually CURRENT news
- zimsters, on 01/06/2009, -19/+38actually, you love linux cause you look like this:
http://nerd-paradise.com/images/nerd/nerd_385x261. ... - dogstylee, on 01/06/2009, -7/+22I want a Linux disk that had "you can't play games on this properly."
- vawksel, on 01/06/2009, -0/+15Watch out everyone, we have a ***** expert here.
- mattlohkamp, on 01/06/2009, -2/+17your description doesn't even approach proper english, the comments are inane, the photo linked less then interesting - all in all a waste of time. Buried for the sake of humanity.
- prashant90, on 01/06/2009, -6/+20What is Linux?
- lowtolerance, on 01/06/2009, -1/+15Yeah...well, there was a catch. The DVD booted as a vanilla LiveCD, but there were some ISO files within the disk that you could burn onto CD.
- r3bol, on 01/06/2009, -2/+16Yeh, if GPL=communism then I love communism
- Zeush8su, on 01/06/2009, -4/+17Here we go again.....Until I can play Crysis with the use of WINE or any other emulator I'm sticking to Vista..Any flavor of Linux works for some people and not for others. It's just like OS X..It's a choice people not a lifestyle, I love it when people get worked up over a OS or a product there are better things out there to worry about.
- Pixelante, on 01/06/2009, -0/+13Don't confuse communism with vodka.
- dirkniblick, on 01/06/2009, -7/+20Short-circuit evaluation prevented me from reading past "My girlfriend..."
- mrBitch, on 01/06/2009, -3/+16@ zimsters RE: " I call b.s. "
The best reply is from the comments at the bottom of the page. from Andrew Moyer :
" ... It's easy to say that "only techies pick Linux"
Have you ever thought that maybe the techies are onto something?
Lets say you need to pick a new brand of toothpaste... who are you going to trust, your dentist, or somebody that brushes their teeth once a week.
When you are using ALL of these systems 12+ hours a day every day, I'll take your opinions seriously. Since I in fact make a nice living doing just this, maybe you will take my opinions seriously. " - phatedesigns, on 01/05/2009, -12/+25Real Humanity to Others
- ultrafez, on 01/06/2009, -7/+19What isn't Linux?
- Sealbhach, on 01/06/2009, -7/+19All this bullcrap about drivers! If you get Linux preloaded on a machine you will have all the drivers you need. Whenever you buy any hardware you always get a CD with windows drivers because Windows by itself has got crap hardware support. Linux supports an amazing range of hardware just by itself - it would support even more hardware if some of the last OEM holdouts opened up their source code - but more and more they are doing so. This is going to be an amazing year for Linux - it might even break the 1% barrier. :-)
- Fw7X0, on 01/06/2009, -1/+13There are some free audio production alternative that can run on Linux. However, these programs are not even close to being in the league of software such as Ableton Live, Cubase or Reason. WINE is a possible alternative but music production software tends to use up a lot of system resources. Emulating them would just be inefficient and would most likely cause Lag and high latency (when using midi devices). Although Linux is a great operating system when it comes to music production and DJing Linux doesn't fit the part. Hopefully audio software companies will decide to port their software to the Linux operating system in the near future but this seems extremely unlikely.
- tapo, on 01/06/2009, -6/+18A common misconception. Nothing in the GPL prevents you from making a profit off your software.
- GarrettGrimsley, on 01/06/2009, -18/+29That's funny, I use XP discs for the same thing
