Yeah, well so? The fragmentation created by hundreds of different desktop distros is somewhat troubling also but it is an inescapable part of the the Open Source landscape. Complaining about it is a waste of air. The very foundation of Open Source revolves around the concept of making forks and fragmentation as easy as possible. - Craga89, on 06/29/2009, -3/+28Great article as always by Ars. There's always room for choice in my eyes, so having a new network manager in the works, especially with big companies like Nokia and Intel involved in the development is always welcome. Taking a gander at the Ubuntu wiki comparison it looks like ConnMan is coming along nicely already, and it will be interesting to see how the presence of ConnMan will effect the time frame and frequency of NetworkManager improvements.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 06/29/2009, -3/+25I am going to digg this because it has nothing to do with a certain musician being dead.
- buddyw, on 06/29/2009, -1/+13Network Manager has improved leaps and bounds over the past few years. I think a little competition form ConnMan will do nothing but push these improvements forward.

I think this is a cry for help. I'll tell you what, you tell me what state your in, and I'll send you some info on the nearest community college. You can do this man. You can learn how to communicate like a semi-intelligent human being. It just takes some dedication. - nullvector, on 06/29/2009, -4/+10LOL. Always cracks me up to see the opensource community in a tizzy over someone developing another free app.
Isn't that the point. - superflyy, on 06/29/2009, -2/+7Network Manager Sucks.......
- shrudheuie, on 06/29/2009, -2/+6I use wicd. NetworkManager has given me issues in the past and wicd is far more reliable. Also, on my Arch lappy, it is nice to have wicd because it is far lighter.
- weirdoweb, on 06/29/2009, -2/+6I don't use NetworkManager, so this doesn't affect me. But it's always good to know what's going on.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Oh intel, you're so punny.
- warp99, on 06/29/2009, -2/+6????
- MorpheousMarty, on 06/29/2009, -0/+4Go into Digg's user setting and turn of the celebrity section. I didn't even find out he was dead until the BBC informed me. I can't imagine how many asinine stories about Paris Hilton, Brad Pit and whoever I've been able to avoid in the past couple of years, but I've never felt I missed out on an important story.
- HonoredMule, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3Methinks NetworkManager developer doth protest too much.
- deadguysleeps, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3just copy each others' pros & we all gonna be fine
- andyakadum, on 06/29/2009, -1/+4'bout time. I wanted to port NetworkManager to Solaris and the devs basically told me "don't bother". Can't wait to see ConnMan in action.
- pokobunt, on 06/29/2009, -1/+3Wrong "Reply" button.
- TylerDuhrdan, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2How about making an adjustment so that I can use keywords to filter stuff out.
Example,
iPhone
Suse
Ubuntu
Micheal bay
etc, etc instead of blocking out entire sections, maybe I want the Entertainment news section as I am wondering how Lou Feregno is doing if he makes the media, but dont want to see 500 MJ or brad pitt stories.
If they can make this website, I am sure they can write code to add keywords. - TDDebug, on 06/29/2009, -2/+4They just had to make the "conns" pun...
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Take a look at the poster...
- psilanthropist, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1That's the whole point of missing out isn't it ? You don't really know when it happens. But on the whole, I agree with you.
- superflyy, on 07/10/2009, -0/+1WICD feels like it doesn't fit in... have you tried anything else? Maybe things will pan out and ConnMan will fill the void.
- jdmulloy, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1I agree.
Personally I think it's too Gnome centric, and the overall design philosophy seems to match that of Gnome, assume the user is stupid and outsmart him because we know better than he does, what he wants. Until recently NM couldn't even connect to a wifi network without a user logging into a GUI environment and having the GUI front end running. The website is terrible too, it's a marketing site that just talks about how great NM is but doesn't offer any technical information or documentation.
WICD is significantly better, it's design is simple but flexible, the way Linux software should be. - HonoredMule, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I have all that stuff turned off and yet still a fair amount has bled into my RSS stream.
- warp99, on 06/29/2009, -7/+4WICD for me since I don't need 3G at the moment.
- yuanzhoulu, on 06/29/2009, -5/+1semi-intelligent human beings don't use words like "Ars" in the 21st century. Tell me the last time you heard someone use the word "ars" on the street, in the news, or even in a piece of modern literature.
- misabrzi, on 06/29/2009, -11/+1ConnMan or Conman...
- yuanzhoulu, on 06/29/2009, -19/+1Ars? you mean Ass?
They really are "Ass Technica", I hate it when people subsitute letters to make euphemisms.
