The Progress Of X.Org 7.4
phoronix.com — If all goes according to plan, X.Org 7.4 will finally be released this month. This release isn't quite as elaborate as X.Org 7.3, which introduced input hot-plugging, EXA enhancements, and RandR 1.2 to just name a few features, but X.Org 7.4 is another update better enhancing this X server.

- jdhore1, on 05/05/2008, -0/+2the Xorg team has been SEVERELY slipping in my opinion for such an essential part of *nix (any distro that has a GUI, uses X.Org with the possible exception of DSL). Xorg 7.3 was delayed multiple times, it was released VERY buggy and although it could do some of what was advertised, it couldn't do all of what was advertised. Either Xorg needs to find some (read: a lot) decent devs or they really need to start putting less features in releases so they can get it out on time (with Xorg 7.3, instead of doing BulletProof X, input hotplugging, DTrace and output hotplugging, they should've cherry-picked 1 or 2 (BPX + Dtrace or hotplugging + dtrace) and left the others for Xorg 7.4)
- adila01, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1With the new kernel mode-setting feature in X.org 7.4, Grub 2 (not official yet), and the new GDM face browser, the next Ubuntu release will have an awesome boot-up that can rival any proprietary OS :D
