- michaelpinto, on 01/10/2009, -0/+4Folks LOVED OS2 back in the day — year-after-year it would always win best operating system of the year in InfoWorld. BTW If you think Mac fans are hardcore — they were nothing when put next to OS2 fanboys!
- swordedge, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Until just a few years ago, OS/2 was the Number 1 OS used on ATMs. It was very strippable meaning that you could boot it from quite a bit less then two floppies of space. It was very stable. It's firewall was world class. MS tried for many years to take that market from IBM and failed miserably.... Till IBM pulled the plug on OS/2.
I met an ATM developer and he tells me that in order to use windows, they put a completely independent layer between it and the outside world. It is my understanding that this is something that OS/2 did not need.
I think they should abandon windows too and just use a good Real Time OS. Windows is too vulnerable to attack. - swordedge, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1And no, I don't use it any more. It has too few apps now.

- TheAttacks, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1I recently saw OS2 being used on a Marine Federal Credit Union ATM in Virginia. I snapped a photo on my cell, I was pretty amazed that a device we use all the time is running such old software. (BTW, I saw the OS2 logo as the ATM rebooted after eating my g/f's debit card. . . hahaha)
