I've been waiting for something like this. I get really sick of all this web 2.0 crap and people shouting how it will save the world because we can access our files from anywhere. The future won't be ajax applications, but rather native desktop applications (for obvious reasons) with integration to online services. Of course, ajax has it's place for when all you have is a browser (library computer) but I don't see anyone using ajax for their primary applications. - myfanwy, on 12/12/2007, -0/+10slightly untrue description, it doesn't really sync your docs, just uploads a new copy. so if you import something from google docs, edit it and then save it back to google docs, it creates a new file. which is a step forward, but not actual synchronisation.
half a digg - sx66gns, on 12/12/2007, -0/+6wow , thanks to the digger for this one , hella sweet!
- erkokite, on 12/12/2007, -0/+6I'd say it's alright in terms of usability- but it seems very bloated and slow.
- proghead, on 12/12/2007, -0/+6WERE I GET FREE VERSHUN!?
- tattertech, on 12/12/2007, -1/+5Definitely right. Ajax or any browser based solution is too limited. Native applications have much better capabilities, the key is freeing data from them in easy and meaningful ways - not just throwing it all up on the internet.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3Why blogspam? Why didn't you just submit the extension link yourself?
- myfanwy, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3yes, you are
- nousplacidus, on 12/12/2007, -0/+3I think google needs to setup some serious corporate content management software to compete with Sharepoint in the corporate world. This is a big step in the right direction.
- peregrine, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2No its not slow. Wouldnt it be easy for OOo to put a hidden process in your machine that speeds up startup? Like Microsoft Did? Oh wait this program runs on damn near anything.
- muppethouse, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2When I last tried this a month ago there were no issues publishing to google docs, but I was not able to pull documents down. Now if only the illusive "docsfs" that was shown in the MacFUSE demo video would be released I could give up local storage of the three documents I actually use.

- moocow1452, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Might I just say as a laptop owner, this is the epiphany of all things awesome for someone who wants to keep their files in one place wherever they go, and someone who wants to use a full-blown word processing program instead of a web browser for their typing needs. Need I mention Desktop Syncing?
- Darkhacker, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2OpenOffice has Quickstarter that sits in the system tray for fast access and startup. If you go to Tools->Options and under the first item in the tree at the left called "OpenOffice.org" there is a "Memory" section that has a checkbox for "Enable Systray Quickstarter".
- preist, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome,
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1This extension is something that google must do officially with the OOo folks, it is exactly what MS Office Live is suppose to be but right here, right now and free :)
- raygan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1Has anyone figured out how to get this functionality into NeoOffice for the Mac? I was able to import the plugin and even got the buttons/menus to show up, but it was non-functional.
- peregrine, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1For windows so it can compete with Office. Not with anything else does it need that tray.
- buddamus, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Open source, the thinking mans solution
- lolo2007, on 02/01/2008, -0/+0Has anyone been able to get the import feature to work? I am trying to use this extension with the latest version of OOO (2.3.1) on Windows XP, and I can only get the export function to work. When I select import, and then enter my login, I click "get list" and no documents ever appear

- shakajumbo, on 12/12/2007, -0/+0Is there a write up on how to install this? I'm running Ubuntu 'Gutsy', and i've downloaded the file, and opened OO.o Calc. Went to Tools->Extension manager Add.. and added the file, and restarted but my screen looks the same no new icons or anything. I've also verified Tools->options-> java has Sun Microsystems 1.6.0_03 selected.
Is there anyplace with install instructions? self confessed Linux n00b here with 6mos experaince.
Thanks - eqbridges, on 12/12/2007, -5/+2am i the only one that thinks that OOo has a long way to go in terms of usability, even with improvements like this?
- BobbyWu, on 12/12/2007, -3/+0OLD NEWS! This was blogged by the incredible Svetlana Haugland in her awesome blog: http://openoffice.blogs.com/openoffice/2007/11/goo ... For OOo naysayers, pickup her book, OpenOffice.org 2 Guidebook. There is some truly incredible power in this suite of office tools.
- pcpimpster, on 12/12/2007, -5/+1Nice, did anyone notice that its free!?! /sarc
