- tuxchick, on 06/12/2009, -10/+71Does it come with the rootkit already installed?
:D - RealmDown, on 06/12/2009, -1/+29They probably already have it cached.
- warp99, on 06/11/2009, -8/+30This is actually a good submission by AstralKnight. Credit given when due.
- podgey22, on 06/12/2009, -4/+24Why do you care who submitted it?
Just digg/ignore/bury on the merits of the article and stop being so political about being a Digg user. - wefarrell, on 06/12/2009, -0/+14This is what's missed when you try to make a head to head comparison between the iphone and devices like the g1 miss. The iphone os might be snazzier and easier to use but android open and can be scaled to many different devices, including netbooks and pc's. If linux is going to take over this will be how it does.

That's one device i will be looking for. Android is awesome, but i don't like the idea of being raped by mobile carriers data plans if i buy a smartphone.
A decent sized device with Android, WiFi, hopefully bluetooth and OLED screen is what i am dreaming for.
Sony makes great products when they don't push their proprietary crap (Memory Stick) or formats (ATRAC). I hope this device will see the day - Gustomucho, on 06/12/2009, -1/+91-Stop playing with your gadgets while driving
2-Watch the road sign
3-Look at your speedometer
What next, you will ask for a rally co-pilot to tell you the road sign said easy right ? - krisrm, on 06/12/2009, -0/+8that looks excellent, though I have to admit, I kind of appreciate buttons on my MP3 player; it makes changing a song/the volume a lot easier when the device is in your pocket. That looks kind of like it's taken the iPod Touch approach to music playing; I can only see a Home button there.
- cantormath, on 06/13/2009, -0/+7I have two of these walkmans, a 2gb and a 8 gb. They are awesome and work very well with Linux.
- buddamus, on 06/12/2009, -1/+8Did I miss something, I have seen many anti-AstralKnight comments, why??
- praisethelard, on 06/12/2009, -2/+8Look at his comment history. He's a total tool.
- oobuntu, on 06/13/2009, -0/+6"good" isn't an adjective i'd use to describe itunes. due to apple's know-it-all tendencies, it never gives to complete control over your music collection and mp3 player. if my computer dies and i need to resync my ipod with the new machine, it tries to wipe the ipod. how many people have lost their whole collection due to this?
- ninjamoves, on 06/12/2009, -0/+6Linux and Walkmans... these are a few of my favorite things!
- tastypastry, on 06/12/2009, -0/+5I think you're missing the point.
- LostSoul83, on 06/12/2009, -2/+6I seriously have this phobia of allowing anything from Sony to communicate with my PC after the whole rootkit thing. The one exception to the rules is my PS2 connected over S-Video. Its not like they could install a rootkit that way. :)
- FredFredrickson, on 06/12/2009, -1/+4Your car has a speedometer for a reason. Use it.
- hymneforthedead, on 06/12/2009, -8/+11does it require that you sell your soul to Google?
- warp99, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Back in the 80's Cadillac developed a warning system with an audible tone which would sound when you exceeded the speed limit. In the end they removed it because consumers said it was too annoying.
- MWeather, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3A lesson from Apple? It's a rectangular touchscreen MP3 player running an OS capable of installing apps other than mp3 playback. How is that different from the iPod Touch?
- skate3214, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3That's what they want you to think!
- plugy, on 06/12/2009, -1/+4well...if its anything like their phones we know its going to be amazing..
- the8thbit, on 06/12/2009, -1/+3I'm still waiting for my handheld gaming console that runs Android 2.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -5/+7 I think the rootkit is installed with the next upgrads.
That being said,if it's made by Sony,I definitely will not buy it. - MethodOne, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2Will it sync with my PS3?
- nixw, on 06/13/2009, -3/+5I just hope it plays Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Theora and FLAC files by default.
- ahhell, on 06/12/2009, -2/+4I hope it comes with Riiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer.
- Taiyoryu, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2One step closer to an SE Cybershot Android phone...
- secrity, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Use Cruise Control.
- secrity, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2The car speed warning "feature" has came and gone several times over the decades, and I don't think that anybody has ever liked it. Cruise control works MUCH better than an alarm.
- the8thbit, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2That has nothing to do with what he's talking about, bdbr.
- LokitheComplex, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Me too. I'm happy with my k800, controlling the player when its in my pocket in cold weather. A touch only control would be a pain. And headphone controls are too fiddly. Apart from my Nokia Bluetooth cans...but no radio on them and they are bulky.
- krisrm, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2... or they could just put buttons on the device itself. It doesn't have to be many, just two of them and a volume slider. I don't really want to have to worry about proprietary, expensive headphones with awkward controls. They don't have to take away the touchscreen; heck, they don't even have to shrink it a bit to add a volume slider.
- MattBD, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2I loved my NWA-3000, it was such a cool music player, it looked cool, it felt better in your hand than an iPod thanks to its curved shape, and it had a Genius-like feature years before Apple implemented it. Only reasons I switched to an iPod were for Last.fm scrobbling and because I hated Sony's music player software, Connect Player. Android on a Sony device would scratch the software itch, and third party apps could probably solve the Last.fm scrobbling problem.
- mubi, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1hey check it out my
- MattBD, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1I can see the merits of both physical buttons and a touchscreen. How about having a touchscreen on the device, but with additional controls on the headphones, as was done with the PSP? That way you can have the best of both worlds.
- Leetamus, on 06/12/2009, -2/+3Being that Sony goes so far to lock down their products I'm surprised they are going with open source.. wouldn't be surprised if they ruin the open-sourcedness (yes i just made a word) of it...
- Flooq, on 08/02/2009, -0/+1Anything Sony want... it's open source.
- skyshark88, on 06/14/2009, -1/+2Wifi?? Youtube video.. cool what else with android....
- Culyt, on 06/13/2009, -2/+3Its from Sony, your lucky if it plays mp3's rather than whatever DRM format they are pushing this week.
You will also be looking at the latest Sony proprietary storage cards for expansion rather than SD. That way they can force you to be locked into Sony, but also end up buying new cards when the old ones are too out of date to work in new devices and have been made redundant by the next generation Memstick SuperUltraHyper DUO XIII.
You will also need a new player if you want to go above a specific storage size since the older sticks won't be produced in the same capacity. - oobuntu, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2despite his userid, maybe iOSX is referring to the fact that in the 80s, walkmans ruled. then they dropped the ball and apple picked it up with the ipod. hopefully sony will not just follow but actually think about innovating again soon. at the moment it still looks like copying
- FredFredrickson, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1I agree - Sony is good for hardware, but they've fumbled when it comes to software for devices like these. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
- paulsmith288, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1good to know.
- moduc, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Did they have a feature to turn it off? Did they have it reported accurately and allow the users to override the speed limit if it fails (much likely due to change in speed limit afterward). Did they allow them to configure the speed difference before the alert? They they allow the configuration of the alert sound and volume?
How much did they charge for this feature? It all matters. If it comes free, or no additional charge, and turn off be default, with all of the above feature, I don't see why anyone would demand them to turn it off.
Cruise control serves a totally different purpose. I don't turn on cruise control in urban area, for a mile each turn. Unfortunately, it doesn't take much to speed up or down in a very short distance.
If I was thinking about the speed at all, I wouldn't speed in the first place. Sometime, you just forget, and drive at a speed you seem safe.
Many streets in similar settings have speed limits ranging from 25 to 45. I wonder what the difference? I am pretty sure most of the time, there is no difference, it's just the speed itself. - SONYDVDR, on 06/12/2009, -6/+6totally *****!
- MrCheerios, on 06/12/2009, -2/+2What the hell do you need all that ***** for? Learn how to drive!
- rpgmakr, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1Is this the start of "Ciber-rights movement"?
