I wonder if the projects are related? Ubuntu as the platform, Intel Linux engineers providing the UI... or maybe that small-screen version of Gnome.
Personally I'm happy with my Nokia N95. It's way responsive than WM6, has a KHTML based browser that can display real web pages, and SyncML, an open platform so it can sync with most Linux appa via OpenSync. I don't feel the need to run Ubuntu on my phone as I don't think I'd get anything more. But more choices are always good.
