- ptFoe, on 11/20/2008, -1/+7Useless like during the Olympics the Moonlight version was too old to be compatible with NBC's coverage using Silverlight.
Moonlight will always be behind.
At least with Adobe the releases are in unison. - dmorel, on 11/19/2008, -1/+3Is Silverlight for Linux a "Trojan Horse" as some posters suggest, or is there value in having a cross platform plug in for rich media?
Personally, I find the whole "We hate plug ins" thing to be amusing these days. Many people seem to overlook the fact that Flash is still a plug in regardless of it's current market share and the number of posts I read bemoaning the LACK of support for flash plug ins on the iPhone is absurd, further underscoring the acceptance of plug ins from at least a vocal minority of users in some areas.
Working in the streaming media space I can tell you I welcome both the competition Silverlight brings to flash and some of the unique and impressive features we've been able to deploy using the technology. I consider Silverlight on the linux desktop a win. - inactive, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1The question is, who cares? Silverlight is just another pathetic attempt from Microsoft to try rip off an already established and commonly-used platform (Adobe Flash) so they can get one step closer to having a monopoly on everything. Nobody's going to ditch Flash for Silverlight. Give it up, because it's not happening, Microsoft. Seriously, who cares about this useless piece of trash?
- naz37, on 11/20/2008, -1/+1much of .net/silverlight is patented by microsoft. The grounds on which other people can use these technologies is very grey and have never made a clear statement that people can create/use alternative implementations of it.
- fejj, on 11/19/2008, -3/+3I don't see how it could be a trojan horse to be honest. not unless people consider gnash or swfdec to be trojans (I don't). Microsoft also supports our efforts by providing us with access to their developers to poke with questions we have about how things are supposed to work, etc and are providing us with the same properly licensed binary codecs they use in the official Silverlight for use in Moonlight so that there's no difference in quality there.
- Ademan, on 11/20/2008, -2/+2How the hell is Moonlight microsoft embracing all devices?! They're not doing ***** other than *permitting* us linux users to play tag along...
