Show Me that Updated Gnome Main Menu
reverendted.wordpress.com — Ted Haeger shows a video of some of the refinements that Novell's Linux desktop design team has been working on. "How often do we Linux advocates and enthusiasts hear the complaint that Linux lacks the polish and refinement that users expect from their desktop? For most end users, it doesn’t matter how good the underlying software is..."

- burtonbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What I'd like to see is an objective comparison between this menu and its equivalent on Vista. Which one makes a user more productive?
- thaeger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Speaking strictly without bias and with complete objectivity, I'd say that this one is more efficient, as the one on Vista is encumbered by a Microsoft operating system.
But seriously, I'll see if I can look into it at some point and try to give them a fair comparison.

- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's looking good. I wonder if the detail on the button is being pushed back to GNOME, aside from the package of the SLED menu.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The application, document and places buttons should be on the bottom of the menu. Clicking on the menu, then mousing half-way up the screen to hit the documents button is a waste. The buttons that access the submenus should be the closest thing to my mouse when I hit the menu button, since theoretically they'll be the first things you're going for 66% of the time. (In my experience is even more frequent since I have quick launch icons for my most used apps, and use the main menu for opening locations more than anything else)

Well, after since the Sri Lankans' 1996 breakthrough invention of the Small People Wier Net, the Japanese put them to use at an industrial scale. Now only eleven years later, global Gnome populations are nearly depleted and the world is once again weaning itself from yet another overexploited protein source.
