Russia Backs Free Software

techdirt.com — Russia has now made it official policy that all schools should use free software. If they want to use proprietary software, they can't use government funds to buy it. It would be nice to see the United States government put similar restrictions on schools in the USA!!!

  • nikki2300dk, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1I guess I was thinking more idealistically. I'm MS-free except for my work computer, where i have no choice. UNIX offers it all.
  • blackturtleus, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1I would tend to agree if other OS's were free... but that's not the case! I hate to see my tax dollars going to support the MS habit that the USA has gotten itself into. It's time for rehab and Linux is the best way to get clean!!! (Incidentally, I do own one computer with MS stuff on it, but my other four computers are MS free!!!)
  • nikki2300dk, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1It's a cool idea for schools to start using linux. The kids would learn even more I'd think. But putting restrictions is too drastic. Kids should get to use different OSes and learn that they all have pros and cons depending on the user and the task, and they'd realize that these rivalries are stupid.
