- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Only a short time after Ted Haeger and Walter Knapp resigned...
It has become clear who gained from the Novell/Microsoft deal. - HerbertScrunge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't know for sure if this is him, but:
"The MSFT/NOVL agreement was not the motivation behind my departure.
I appreciate the postings by those who recognize that the speculation behind my departure is ill-founded and inappropriate."

But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The MS side are they. Once you start down the MS path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
Robert... Robert... do not... do not underestimate the powers of the Balmer or suffer your Co-Workers's fate you will.
Robert, when reassigned am I... the last of the Developers will you be.
Robert, the Code runs strong in you.
Pass on what you have learned, Robert. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I was surprised Dell didn't choose it."
They were probably scared away by the MS/Novell situation. - diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7grammar != spelling

They aren't really. I'd say Microsoft needs Dell more than the other way round. A lot of people simply go to Dell (or HP, or PC World [UK store], or [[insert name of tech company here]]) to buy 'a computer'. The company's website/store rep says that 'this computer is good, it has X, Y and Z, and it only costs A dollars/pounds/euros', so the person buys it.
Dell could probably switch all of its consumer machines to Ubuntu, not tell anyone, and most of its customers wouldn't even notice. Not that they're stupid or anything - they just don't care what technology a computer uses so long as it does what they want it to do - email, word processing, and web surfing. When you buy a toaster, you don't care what type of toasting mechanism it uses, you just care how good it is at making toast. Most people are the same way with computers. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11hmm bury me.
- Shadowman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7SLED is great. I use it on my laptop. It's the most polished Linux desktop I have ever used, including Ubuntu. I was surprised Dell didn't choose it. HP may though, they already certify some of their hardware for it.
Maybe Love will go to Red Hat. - demonsofgoetia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Direct link to entry:

Hrm. As cute as Nat may be, he does seem like Novell's bitch. - chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That is his slashdot user and has been for some time ( http://slashdot.org/~sagei http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=29858&cid=3206789 )

RETARD!!!
(grammar nazi) - ss1958, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6SLED is really great, and I think it would be giving Ubuntu more of a run for its money if it weren't for political issues. It's politics and the lack of apt that keep me from running it.
I hope Love gets a job where he can work on a community distro. I don't know how the management cultures would mesh, and so I don't know if its even possible for him to do the same thing for Ubuntu that he did for Novell. But if that were possible, and Canonical hired him, it would be a really positive thing for Ubuntu. - locnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"""Well I hope their departure is for legitimate reasons and not some "I hate "M$" and I'll rather die at the hand of a Nazi than work together with them" attitude.

You realise that the guy is an adult, right?
I'd explain how the community relations issues Novell has created are not "we hate Microsoft", but we both know that. - mynameiscal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What's Love got to do with it?
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Erm... the most popular consumer distro is Ubuntu. The most popular enterprise distro is Red Hat. So how was Novell Linux's 'one chance'?
- williamdyer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It's pretty clear that Novell pissed away a tremendous opportunity by becoming the patent FUD bitch to Microsoft. Excellent product, from a floating turd of a company.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Of course they are... that's why they're interested in offering Linux. As it stands Dell is Microsoft's bitch.
- digitalarcanum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does anyone else have nightmares about eDirectory?

- crash128, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Try not, do. Do! Or do not. There is no try. (yoda is currently available as a chia pet).
- MajorMauser, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1The one chance Linux had was Novell... and it has ended hahahah aahhahhah h
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Well I hope their departure is for legitimate reasons and not some "I hate "M$" and I'll rather die at the hand of a Nazi than work together with them" attitude.
Purist can be the worst team players. - DontEatTheFish, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2ok, so after Novell made the deal with Microsoft, they were not aloud to use the Linux kernel anymore. so this doesn't effect too much
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -27/+0who the f*ck cares
