If people are going to install proprietary blobs anyways it is better to have them at least know what is wrong with them and how to avoid proprietary hardware. I believe that the Ubuntu's plan, if implemented correctly, could accomplish the task of promoting openenly documented hardware and greater adoption at the same time.
