- Azimuth1, on 05/10/2008, -3/+293Who even uses the arrows? Mouse wheel + slider dragging for me.
- wonderchemist, on 05/10/2008, -3/+253The same people who use the Edit menu to cut and paste.
- BlueSkyfish, on 05/10/2008, -20/+151People who's mouse consists of only one button. You know who you are.
- nova912, on 05/10/2008, -4/+97Eh, I can't even remember the last time I used arrows. But i'll digg it b/c because the world needs more developer.
- keviniskool, on 05/10/2008, -4/+79DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS!
- MiscMouse, on 05/10/2008, -4/+74Is scrolling really that hard now? >.>
- BuddyDoQ, on 05/10/2008, -4/+72I use two fingers here pal!
- roadtripper, on 05/10/2008, -2/+54with regards to 'cool new technology videos' my experience has always been - the worse the voiceover, the better the technology.
- qster, on 05/10/2008, -5/+55Welcome to the planet arium
- geoken, on 05/10/2008, -2/+38Time travellers from the 1970's?
- alx1507, on 05/10/2008, -1/+37Can't wait for the new digg comment system that lets me delete my failed joke comments, lol.
- yosserhughes, on 05/10/2008, -0/+35Redundant I know, but the term ' Revolutionary' comes from the great astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus who, in the early 16th century, determined through brilliant observation and mathematical investigation, that the Earth revolved around the Sun, rather than the Sun revolving around the Earth.
Hence 'Revolutionary'
Apparently now it applies to a freaking mousewheel on a slide bar. - Scott31182, on 05/10/2008, -0/+28Was that Milton from Office Space narrating that?
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -4/+31My trackpad is way better than your trackpad.
Two-finger scrolling is the only way to go. - kcdstudios, on 05/10/2008, -0/+21thats what she said'
- dinostabOMG, on 05/10/2008, -1/+21Good idea. Yeah, not many people use the arrows, but they do expect them there. But the ease of dragging is the important thing, very nice.
- Snuffs, on 05/10/2008, -0/+17my scroll finger was blasted off in the war, so yes.
- renegade334, on 05/10/2008, -0/+21shift-click mate
- jwolcott, on 05/10/2008, -0/+15more nice = nicer
- mrjit, on 05/10/2008, -3/+18This is digg, even if we don't want to know them, we know all of your Mac tricks.
- Devrdander, on 05/10/2008, -2/+19I don't use the arrows at all, but that's because they are not convenient to use. Maybe this would fix that.
- Laiden, on 05/10/2008, -2/+16Probably because all the best technology videos are made outside of the United States.
- drakia, on 05/10/2008, -0/+14Holy crap, I've been using computers for over half my life and never knew this o.o
- Cirrius, on 05/10/2008, -1/+16Now that's what I call front page news!
- Bluppie, on 05/10/2008, -1/+12Maybe it's just me, but seems wierd if you click somewhere on the scrollbar that you don't go to that place, but instead start to scroll in that direction. The only thing for me to use the scrollbar for is to go somewhere instantly.
- ChairDance, on 05/10/2008, -1/+10We can debate about functionality all we want, but that voice was awesome.
Dugg for that alone. - sticko13, on 05/10/2008, -0/+10There are too many a's in your name.
- ferrari_f50, on 05/10/2008, -4/+13i don't even know what a scroll bar is anymore... two finger scrolling on my mac ftw
- alvinhokid, on 05/10/2008, -3/+13cool? yes.
revolutionary? not really. - inactive, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9Nice idea, but "revolutionary" is really stretching it.
- Skitals, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9I must be missing something. The benefit here seems to be that you can can click and scroll from anywhere on the scrollbar. But it seems to remove another key feature of the scroll bar, which is clicking somewhere on the scrollbar to jump to that portion of the page. This doesn't seem like any improvement over a traditional scrollbar and scroll wheel mouse.
- tech9, on 05/11/2008, -1/+9ctrl c and v ftw
- heucuva, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10My boss called me to his office to help him modify some behavior in his code. I pulled up a chair before his computer, then navigated the source and modified it without using the mouse, just like I have for ages. Afterwards, he gave me this honestly stunned look (imagine deer in headlights) and asked "how did you do that? How did you cut and paste without a mouse?"
Now, I normally don't find that as uncommon as most people think. There are a lot of people who just aren't savvy with computers and I learned that early on after I had worked at Apple in their customer support department.
However, this is a special case and I'll tell you why. You see, my boss worked for Microsoft as one of the programmers of the Windows product line. - Planets, on 05/10/2008, -1/+10My eyes burn every time I see "revolutionary" in the title...
- Sail3, on 08/04/2009, -0/+9And the scrollbar revolution begins!
- d03boy, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7PgDn
- SSUK, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8If it's not broken, innovate.
- DeePsix501, on 05/10/2008, -4/+13Scroll wheel FTW. The Scroll bar is to far away on my widescreen to be effecient.
- LloydBentsen, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9Are you referring to the former Astro, now Diamondback, Chris Burke? I can't figure out what you are talking about.
- alexforcefive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7It's default behaviour in gnome, as far as I'm aware
- megaton, on 05/10/2008, -0/+10That's nice, but it removes the capacity for click-to-page-down, which I use pretty frequently.
- robbiemuffin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7yeah, the 80s unix scrollbar is back!
- arizonagroove, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7"more neat"
I would be more neat if you said neater. - Zhay, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6Maximize everything.
- raquo, on 05/10/2008, -0/+6http://www.artgorbunov.ru/bb/ui/infoscroller/ is actually more useful, and it's a working Flash demo (though not open source)
PS the page is in Russian but you can see how it works just fine (Google translate seems to have problems with this page). - inactive, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7He loves reverb.
- inkswamp, on 05/10/2008, -0/+6This is a cool idea, but I almost never use scroll bars anymore, preferring the arrow, page-up and page-down keys and the spacebar/shift+spacebar to move around in browsers.
- mmortal03, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7You can press on the scroll wheel and it will act as the middle mouse click.
- sephiroth965, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6Wow. Why didn't I know this?! That's so cool.
