- Bicep, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2I had both a very good thing happen with the upgrade, and a bad thing. On my work computer, where I use Ubuntu as my main OS, upgrading to 8.10 gave me the ability to extend my desktop to an external monitor. This is a big thing for me, and I was very impressed. I even took the laptop into the conference room and hooked it up to the projector, and .. whiz bang, the "Screen Resoultion" GUI control let me use that as a secondary monitor as well.
On the bad side, I was having serious problems(and finally gave up after trying to reinstall grub and everything) installing Ubuntu on my custom-built sis-698-chipset/celeron/highpoint-controller based computer. I will re-attack this problem again, but it's been frustrating. Don't worry... I have two other computers that are already upgraded to Ibex and other than a weird USB wireless networking adapter issue (where the adapter doesn't always connect with the router after booting up) things have been going well.
Still, to me the killer app of Ubuntu 8.10 is the "Screen Resolution" app, and it finally working with extending my desktop onto a secondary monitor/projector from my work laptop.. this is awesome. This is the type of thing a business laptop needs to have, and Ubuntu Ibex has achieved it... for the hp nc6320 at least.
