- RubberBinder, on 10/10/2007, -5/+57This would be great except for the fact that I have an ATi Video card.
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30An official blog is NOT blog spam.
- tripzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Nothing compares to compiz as a complete desktop effects package. It does way more effects, it's way more customizable, and it looks so damn good. I've gotten 4 people to use Linux so far just because of the desktop alone. Compiz Fusion is the frosting on the cake and will probably get more and more people to try Linux than anything else.
- Skaidon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Hey its the official blog :D.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Man, ***** ATI.
- felderado, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17yeah go back to Beryl... that's a great idea. Let's all use a product that has been abandoned by the developers and will no longer get any bugfixes or features.
who's with me?! - sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Linux is the most logical upgrade path from Windows XP.
- JonLatane, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Umm...
Mac OS X: 2001 (desktop) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X )
Compiz: 2006 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compiz )
Just sayin'. Although I agree with you, it doesn't matter who copies who, it's who does it best. - SgtHobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10As I understand it, that's more of a driver bug.
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10ATI is supported, but XGL only, which is a pain in the arse.
- ha1f, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11glxgear isn't a benchmark. burying you so other noobs don't see your comment and ask the same thing over and over again.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=481314 - loconet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Come on people, where are the videos of the latest release?
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This is an issue with nVidia driver and I don't believe this has been fixed yet.
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9And so it is passed. From this day forth, official blogs are NOT spam.
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It is the best upgrade path from Windows XP.
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Why not go for the real thing? It is much better.
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I think the point he's trying to make is that graphical intensive games running on wine of all things can run pretty well with Compiz Fusion running on top of it. However, I want to see framerates. That, and the link doesn't open because my ISP (monopoly, can't switch) blocked flickr (don't ask why :P )
- ricercia, on 04/21/2008, -0/+6Please don't remind us of the dreaded comment system!
- Skaidon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8There is support for ATI, I use a Raedon 9200 SE in my own desktop for that matter of fact :D. And when in doubt search in the Ubuntu forums. Good luck.
- jamesey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I have an ATI video card (X1300 All in Wonder 2006) that works perfectly with Compiz. Use the restricted drivers
- TheHydrogens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Just in case you weren't being facetious... Google it.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I third that motion
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I've been using Compiz Fusion from one of those repositories that compiles from git, and it's been surprisingly stable. I've only had trouble once, when the Blur plugin slowed moving windows and such to an unmovable state until I disabled it and then logged out and back in.
Funny thing is when I finally showed it off to friends on my laptop they were wowed by the effects. These are people who don't play games and stuff, they type stuff out and make slideshows and stuff, so they were really impressed by 'Linux with Effects'. : ) - chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5There are drivers, but if you have anything that's less than 6 months old, forget about it. I'm still waiting for the X1950 Pro support. Didn't come in the last update, and the response I got from Tech Support was "ATi Drivers are provided as is"
- andrewmp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=511166 should help
- SimonGray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4About smoothness, set the update rate to 200 and you probably won't have any problems.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sorry, wrong link, scroll down for the right one.
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I agree. But once you buy an ATI card, it would simply be a waste to just throw it away, especially if it is less than 1 year old. It's even a bigger problem on laptops because you can't get rid of it without getting rid of the laptop.
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4This is the best thread I have found for that. Hopefully it will help you:

Made my setup easy, but I'm running nVidia. Wish nVidia didn't have the black windows bug when running Compiz though. :( - Skaidon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yes I agree completely, Compiz-Fusion is indeed the crowning glory of the new age of desktop Linux.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Sorry, wrong link. (Digg could really use a delete comment feature)

"NOTE : This is a Development Preview! There are still some major bugs! Do not install this on production machines. Our first stable release will be Compiz Fusion 0.6.0" - Wyzard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you haven't installed the proprietary driver then you're using the free one, which is fine. It doesn't support all the newer cards, though; those need the proprietary driver, which is buggy and doesn't support AIGLX (so the only way to use Compiz is through XGL).
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3XGL is not that bad.
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You can't run a 3D accelerated window manager from within Parallels because Parallels does not support 3D acceleration.

The HOWTO for compiz-fusion:
http://fosswire.com/2007/07/11/how-to-compiz-fusion-on-ubuntu-704-feisty-fawn/
I have an issue with the windows being blacked out so I have to use the following command to start compiz-fusion...
compiz --replace --indirect-rendering decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher & - CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6sweet! i hope they fix the performance bugs im experiencing with the prerelease versions.
- BoMEpsilon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Your comment made little children cry.
- SteveMax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Sorry, but I have to ask. Why Flickr?!
- japostoles, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Anyone know if they provide the black-window bug fix/workaround that Beryl had in this release?
- melve, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It is a driver bug. A workaround that has fixed the problem for me is to pass --indirect-rendering as an option when starting compiz.
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This tutorial uses the non-official ati drivers, which are slow and sluggish. Thanks, but I'm sticking with my beryl install which works fine with my official ati drivers and XGL.
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That would kill my PC right? Anyways it's not only because of the update rate. Some animations are just........ bleh. Like when I click on the K menu, the menu is supposed to fade in. But what happens is that it appears for a couple of ms, disappears, and then fades in. Also, in minimization, for some reason it does 2 animations at the same time o.O one animation similiar to Windows Vista, and it cannot be unset, and the other being whatever I choose.
Sometimes I get the feeling that compiz/beryl/compiz fusion are all designed for gnome in mind, because in my past experience beryl doesn't work properly with KDE in Kubuntu, and compiz fusion doesnt work properly in KDE in Gentoo. After deleting Kubuntu and installing gentoo and beryl, beryl works fine and smooth with KDE - ravage386, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Halp! I'm trapped in a comment tree!
- 9a3eedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why is the parent being dugg down? He's simply stating his opinion...
- sacherjj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He comments that he is a Linux desktop hater, then used CygWin to try and make Windows act like Linux. That deserves a Digg down.
