Quickstart - Back up your *whole* Ubuntu install

quickstart.phpbb.net — Quickstart is a tiny script that allows you to backup your *whole* Ubuntu installation. Backup files can be stored on any medium, and restoration is as simple as the backup - Iv tried it, and it works a treat. You *can* do the same from the command line, but for newcomers to Linux Quickstart ticks all the boxes.

  • HuwJanus, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Yes, I know that you can do such things very easily from the command line, but there are still a great many (newer) Ubuntu users who are not comfortable with that just yet. Giving them the chance to do a full backup is a great way to get them into the habit.
    The script allows you to do all or any of three possible backups (root, config and home) and restoring any of them is equally simple. Iv done this and it worked perfectly every time. The project is on going, and the developer is currently working on including full disk imaging to allow backups of the complete system, including other OS's which may share your machine.
