- chokeyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought this was common knowledge? Not to be a chump or anything, but I'm surprised to see this here. Go figure. It is a handy tip to know though, so good on ya for that.

or digg, if you want. - Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Um, you've always been able to.
As long as you have the environment installed, there's a tab on the lower left of the login window, click that and you should be able to change it. - ehudokai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At your log-in screen(kdm/gdm) if you have both kubuntu-desktop and ubuntu-desktop, you should have an option to select which desktop you wish to use, and it should default to whatever you used last. Hope that helps.
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can pick whichever session you like from the login screen, and that will remain your default session until you change it again.
The tip bonlebon posted allows you to change the default window manager (kdm or gdm). The default window manager is always used to display the login screen, however, a KDE session will always use KDM and a gnome session will use GDM no matter what the default is.
It's really only useful if you have your system set up to automatically login one user. - coding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hasn't this always been possible in Mandrake?
- tadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This can be done (graphically) at the login prompt of Solaris 10 (assuming the package in question has been installed). Pick the environment of your choice from the dropdown.
- xNaquada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sudo apt-get install kde-desktop
I believe. - bllambert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks HarryBauzonia. Now the post makes since to me. I downloaded both KDE-CORE and XFCE last night. I like them, but Gnome is by far the best laid out. Maybe its just what I know best. KDE looks nice, and XFC looks bare. To each thier own.
- theWrkncacnter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When you do the regular install of ubuntu dapper, does it come with kde and gnome or just gnome. I use gnome, but that's just because it was default. I might like to try kde if it's already installed or if I can get it with synaptec.
- illicium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's why everyone should use Ubuntu!
/sarcasm - midwinter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's nice to have a choice. I guess not everyone can cope with that.
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe its just a common command thats been easily overlooked.
- bllambert, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can this be done in the sessions login screen of Ubuntu? I would like to be able to change with a simple click before login in
- gill1109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as i read the tip the point appears to be that you can change the desktop, live, while actually in the desktop. i should try this out... (otherwise this really is pointless).
- seacow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good, I have always wanted to swith quicker!
- hulen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5switchdesk? for switching desktops? what are you going to tell me next, firefox for web browsing? vi for text editing? how about gaim for IM?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe his C key is broken, and his S prints an H.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Hundreds of distro's, all of them different. What a nightmare.
- ddales, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Ok, handy for BSD, but not for the populous.
