- legion, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35Compiz-fusion is the only program I know of that allows me to rotate multiple desktops full of porn on a 3d cube.
- kimos, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21When it says that some cards aren't supported, it really means that ATI doesn't ever work.
As I've read in multiple forums "If you have an ATI card, may whatever deity you believe in help you". - Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Read through the comments on Compiz Fuzion YouTube videos. You'll see them peppered with "OMG how do I install that on Vista?"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15sorry but your wrong, all of stardocks apps are resource hogs and neither anything stardock OR styleXP can do compares to compiz/beryl/compiz fusion for eye candy
and thats coming from a windows fanboy with linux as a dual boot os ^_^ - polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16It sucks having an ATI Rage Mobility M3 AGPx2............
I've crashed my Ubuntu and Suse machines multiple times........ Me no think good. - legion, on 10/10/2007, -11/+24Yes, compiz-fusion is unfortunately like a beautiful woman. Pretty, but entirely unstable.
- armbo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12i have mac x. i have vista. i have kubuntu.
they all suck. kubuntu just sucks less.
freedom of choice, bitch. freedom of choice. - theOster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9WHERE CAN WE FIND THESE 'PLACEBOS'??
- mobilehavoc, on 10/10/2007, -9/+17Holy *****! That's what I've been waiting for my entire life...a way to spin my desktop around, make my windows wobble, make my active windows spin around like a ring and best of all, write my initials on my computer with fire!!! This is bound to increase my productivity exponentially!!1!!!111!
- ontain, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11why pay double for the hardware by getting a make if you know what you're doing and can do the same for less?
of course if you're clueless and don't like choices then a make is the way to go. - CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9what was causing the problem? i hardly see how a window manage can affect your networking...
- nicknottaken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Do you expect anything other than stupidity from Vista users?
- CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8wtf? i did a little comparison:
Dell Vostro: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/4x_vostro_1500?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd
I upgraded it to a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz to match the MacBook
1GB ram, 120gb harddrive
nvidia 8400GS for gfx: more than decent! and a proper 15" screen!
Price: £622. this is only because it is Vista Business edition, before it was Home Basic and was £528!
The cheapest Macbook:
Intel C2D 2.0ghz
1gb ram, only 80GB harddrive
crappy integrated intel 950 for gfx....
Price: £700.
to get nvidia graphics in a macbook, pr even a 15" screen, you have to spend £1300 on a macbook pro!
CONCLUSION: Spend £80 more on a mac, get 20gb less of harddrive, much crappier graphics, and a screen 2" smaller. Spend £500+ more than the Dell(£1300!) for just the 15" screen and nvidia graphics that come on the £622 PC...
thats what Apple do. Vendor-lock in. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8i'm surprised the UAC didn't ask them 20 times if they wanted to post the comment or not
- CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Nope. I use it most of the time and it rocks :D haven't had a single issue.
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Oh I'm sure most people realized it was a joke, you just don't seem to realize it was a ***** joke.
- DudleyInnocent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I have an ATI 9250 256MB card and everything works for me.
- 35263526, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Before putting someone down you might want to reread their comment; he wasn't talking about the price of Apple machines versus other OEMs (i.e. Dell/HP/etc.), he was talking about the price of OEM machines (including Apple) versus ones built by hand.
Total component cost is generally far cheaper than any OEM system, and if you know what you're doing then building can be done in an hour or less. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Its called the placebo effect
- lilmoonee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5i find myself much more productive with expose/quartz. the compiz-fusion equivalent, scale, doesnt work as well. one good example is the fact that if scale is set to a hot key, say F9, once activated, there is no way to get rid of the effect other than to select a window. in expose, pressing the hot key again makes it go away.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Compiz Fusion opens up many of the Mac productivity tools, I find these very useful. You can activate plugins that work like Expose, Widgets and the new multidesktop wall feature coming in leopard.
I also find the preview plugin to be handy, it pops up a small window when hovering over minimised windows. There are alot of feature in CF that make the desktop much more productive. - sergiocarvalho, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Fancy, how Mac fans dissed virtual desktops until God Jobs provided the feature. Now, they are supposedly better than anything already present in linux...
- jeff419, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Can't wait for the new Compiz!
- jcarlock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Make sure you have the newest updates, or force them to hold the older version. The newest updates FUBAR'd many people's settings and configurations.
Good luck. - socomoddjob, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Ive been using beryl/compiz for many months...i think its crashed twice. Runs stable on my system......
- andrewtheart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Does Compiz-Fusion slow down your computer to any degree? What's the payload, in other words?
- zaskie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4try sabayon linux (org) it runs compiz by default and with ati some tweaking requeried
the mini edition must be coming out this week ... - cry0x, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Same *****, Different Blog.
Buried as lame. - scb0825, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I am using the newest Compiz Fusion with Trevino's repos. I have a gForce 5900 Ultra. No problem installing or configuring... I did have to take info from two different ubuntu forums though... I created a cheat sheet for myself. If anyone is interested in it let me know... BTW, CF is light years ahead of anything else.
- prammy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Not all the tools necessarily improve productivity.
But the scale plugin (like OS X's expose), smart window placement, move window to cursor (Win+Z), ADDHelper etc used properly can improve your workflow. - jptolife, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Wow, that looks pretty cool.. I think I'll install Linux on my pc now...
- CymraegKatana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This looks amazing, can't wait to install it on my Ubuntu Lixux running on my MacBook. Having only just started to understand how good Linux is, I think Microsoft could learn a lot from the visual features included in Compiz Fusion. But saying that they'd probably just be accused of copying OS X. Bottom line: much nicer to look at that Vista or anything Microsoft is going to churn out anytime soon.
- colinm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Compiz Fusion repository for Debian Unstable (Shame's) also installs fine on my Debian Testing machine without any dependency problems. I've found it to be a worthwhile upgrade from Beryl 0.2.
- DudleyInnocent, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Evidently people other than you on this site think so.
So yes. - jackkerouac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3... as it asks you 25x whether or not to pull off the effect.
- chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you have one of the older cards, you might be OK. But anything new than the X1900 series, and you are all outta luck.
- CCmachined, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3yes XD
- bloodguard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm running Compiz 0.5.1 under Ubuntu 7.04 with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 (Acer Ferrari 4000 Laptop). Works fine. Looks great.
Makes me wonder if upgrading is a good idea. - ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have a semperon (I know, I know) and a 7600 GT and I works no hitches whatsoever
- sukimashita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What is the difference between Compiz and Compiz Fusion?
- legion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Different people have different computers, it may run fine for you, but on my rig it freezes up periodically.
- Sairgem, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Too bad it's still not even close to being stable. It's a shame too, because I could see myself using compiz on a daily basis.
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2should be fixed soon
- sloppychris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Screenshot?
- ShutYourPieHole, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6I've had issues with Compiz causing my wireless connection to stop responding. It took me some time to pinpoint exactly what was causing the issue, but switching to Beryl, over Compiz, I've noticed far more stability in my desktop and connection. Hopefully, with the next full release, these little issues will no longer be a gating factor.
- google01103, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I It is stable running .5.2
- sloppychris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3When did you try? It's stable as all hell for me.
- Dankoozy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5For some reason after starting compiz for the second time the 'png' plugin disappears from the list. the next time 'decoration' goes. this is extremely annoying. I don't know how to get rid of it. even setting the gconf xml file to read only didn't help. yet when i manually add those plugins back to the list it works fine, and i have the list in the exact same order as on a FC6 system running the same version of compiz.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's been stable on my machine.
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I have yet to experience Compiz Fusion crash on my development box. Running it flawlessly on a low-range on-board Intel graphics card.
