- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -19/+72Well, sorry to spoil your fun, but this guy is terrible. Most of the reason that people like Japan is that they are progressive and have a unique part to their constitution, which is article 9.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_9_of_the_Constitution_of_Japan
This guys primary goal is to reverse this part of the constitution and declare war on North Korea.
He is well known in Japan for ignoring domestic issues and pushing terrorism to accomplish his agenda. (sound familiar?) - Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34Signs of a bad leader.
You don't log in as root. - Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19you do to install root priveleged software or software for all users. he didn't log in as root originally, just to install.
in any case, he knows how to and is using SVN, he's got my vote. - FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Nerd humor. Wee.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@RedHairedMan
Imperialism and conquest? Yeah that would be terrible if some country with a big army thought they were the only real true voice and insisted their version or morality and culture was superior to any other country's. Good thing there isn't a country like that now, whew! Yup nothing like that at all right now. Nope, nothing. That would be bad. Wait a minute..... - codeblind, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@Archon
I do the voodoo that I do do with sudo. - jmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Shinzo Abe (安倍晋三) is not horrible, he just follows in the steps of Prime Minister Koizumi in wanting to reverse Article 9 of the constitution. Shinzo Abe may be a little toお nationalistic and right wing (kinda like George W. Bush in America) for my liking, but he's not crazy enough to attack North Korea.
Japan is perhaps the only country in the world that has vowed to renounce war. Despite this clause in its constition, Japan has continued to support and maintain national self-defense forces (自衛隊) since the American Korean War so changing Article 9 would not necessarily mean a major change in foreign policy, what it would mean is that the role of Japan in the United Nations and other international bodies would change drastically. Japan could no longer provide the role of the neutral peace maker that it has provided in the past, but with the reversal of Article 9 be forced to take sides in international disputes, alienating itself even more from S. Korea and China.
I participated in a debate on this topic when I was an exchange student in Japan last year...だから、自衛隊のものがしているよ。。。

Um, it's just a website design, he might have absolutely no idea what it means - notfred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8He's using an old tiBook - therefore he's as outdated as his brand of nationalism.
- RedHairedMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I actually had a guy from Japan tell me that the WW2 spirit was alive and well in Japan and that if given half a chance, they'd probably turn to imperialism and conquest again.
I sincerely hope he was exaggerating. - zenzenkevin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8he doesn't have my vote until he tops Koizumi-san's antics during his visit to Graceland.
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9So we're all for going to war with North Korea because their leader is mad and they have nuclear weapons...
So, when will the rest of planet go to war with America for the same reasons? God knows I'm far more afraid of America than I am North Korea.
As for the website... If anyone should be president, it's the designer of the page for suckering you lot into going "Oh, he's cool!" - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7cool :)
- richmastaplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think the leaders should have their notebooks with projectors in debates so they can prove who is more 133t.
- nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7mlwarrior, your over-generalizing the situation to a massive extent. And nothing's been said about declaring war, it's more like "can we do something so North Korea doesn't just blow us up?" Article 9 was forced on them, but despite that it's generally a favored part of the constitution by the Japanese populous. I don't think it will be eliminated, only ammended to give room for more defense. It's a very necessary move for Japan in my eyes. Coolest country on Earth has a right to not get blown up, ya digg?

Ummmm, wait a second here. Just because this guy opposes this article 9 doesn't make him a bad guy. With acticle 9, Japan would not be allowed to respond to a nuclear attack by North Korea. If North Korea nuked Tokyo shouldn't the Japanese have a right to defend themselves? - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3abe as in ah beh

- MasterSheep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Better yet, let's just decide elections from now on by means of high stakes, 3D "hacking contests", the kind only cheesy 80s movies can do right.
- tsmango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sudo vote for me?
- Harbinger67, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9What's wrong with Japan declaring war on N. Korea? How about Japan getting their ass handed to them? Japan's rapidly aging population is hardly a circumstance conducive to fielding an army capable of taking on the manpower of Korea. I'll probablly get dugg down for saying this, but oh well :p
- sunchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think what's interesting is not the candidate's politics (although I would support Japan's right to fully re-arm). What's interesting is the fact that in a Japanese political campaign, someone thought this geeky joke would appeal to voters. I think that's pretty great. Here in the US, political campaigns are either an ad hominim attack on your opponent, or a sickening montage of the candidate rolling up his sleeves, kissing babies, touring factories, playing ball with his kids.
I think it's nice that in Japan politicians and their handlers don't assume their constituents are morons. - BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can't vote for a Prime Minister. He's chosen by the elected cabinet.
- baki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"*nix code in the background..." ? lol...
First off that looks like a pretty standard bash terminal/command line, with some basic commands being passed to it (getting, compiling, installing). No 'code' involved.
Second, he's using a [creative] play on words to convey a point. He's SVN'ing "../seisaku/proud", configuring using a "with passion" flag, making the program "proud_japan", etc.
Finally the Apple 'Powerbook' that your referring to is perfectly capable of doing all that and more, out of the box. FYI, OS X is built around a BSD core.
Welcome to the world outside of jail,err...windows... Please do .001% of research before your next post. "...LOL" indeed. - actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2./configure --with-passion=/home/abe/blood
Abe blood? Uhmm...what'd I miss? - Venator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LDP has had control of Japan since the end of WW2 so basically he will be elected with or without the coolest homepage for any political candidate ever.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4He is using a Powerbook, he knows were it's at.
- Zanneth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*nix code and a Mac user! Domo arigato!
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The problem with declaring war on North Korea is that WHO IS GOING TO SUFFER? When Japan stopped sending food to N. Korea after the Missile incident, do you think that really hurt the fat cats in the Korean government? It only hurts the people of the country. The people of N. Korea are prisoners of the country and a war will just make them suffer more. The correct way to deal with this is to put pressure on China and make them force Korea into an embarrassing situation, no kill innocent civilians. My wife is Japanese, but she is one of the few politically smart Japanese people who hate Abe. Abe's grandfather was basically in charge of WW2 and even after they lost the war, Abe's granddad wanted to keep ravaging other poor Asian Countries, he wanted to keep fighting the war. I'm not saying that Japan isn't a cool place. I've lived there and my wife is Japanese. But she knows, and I know that the leadership of Japan are just ultra conservative, racist, ethnocentric *****. Period.
Edit, @ nmaster64 "nothing's been said about declaring war"
http://www.google.com/search?q=japan+north+korea+preemptive+strike&start=0
you are wrong, sir - mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What you wrote is wrong, and not a proof.
- kuriharu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Abe looks like he'd be a good leader to pick up where Koizumi left off. As others mentioned, he's a prime minister, so he's elected by his party, not the people directly.
Japan needs to go nuclear, or it can probably expect to be attacked within 10 years. I lived there in 1998 when North Korea launched the first of its missles over Japan. They practically snubbed Japan as it has no real defense of its own.
がんばれ、安部総理!日本の将来を守ろう! - gooddoggytreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What a campaign strategy!
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it a bit scary. Japan is allowed a degree of historical revisionism that would *never* be permitted to Germany. I hope Japan doesn't take a radical turn to the right - we know where that ended last time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Relax and don't take the internet seriously.
- satansbanjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Japan votes for him after this ad campaign then they're being probably the biggest stereotypes in the world
- pokemogu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@mlwarrior
Shinzo just wants to add that "Japan has Self Defence Force to protect itself" to article 9.
Current article 9 describes that Japan never preserves any armed forces and that is quite inaccurate nowadays. - bhooot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Canadians have already sent the iBook to the museum
