- FXPooky, on 10/17/2007, -2/+29Damn, still no MSN personal messages.

- jdhore1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Also, if you read the Changelog, you'd see that that is one of the things they worked on for this release:
* Some AIM file transfer issues between Pidgin and other clients have been fixed. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11yeah and theres a support forum you can post that same question and i'm sure someone out there will be glad to help you out...
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10*shrug* we already have Jabber/XMPP clients that work great, we already have libjingle and an independent reimplementation of jingle. Having Google release the client isn't useful at this point, especially as it's written mainly in Win32 code anyways. Having them release it just for the sake of releasing it is silly.
- mik3pass, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I just got around to compiling Pidgin 2.1.1 about 3 days ago.
Progress is dandy though. - Malachai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Here's a reason: recently, a friend of mine switched to Xubuntu because she's running an ancient PC with only 64mb of RAM. She really isn't computer savvy at all, and she's an avid Myspace person. She wanted to use Myspace IM, but couldn't. This is for her.
- patricks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Why would this have impact? It had no impact on the closed source platforms. Messengers are a very crowded market. Google learned that lesson.
- catalysis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Why the hell would you do that? You only use the IM services that you want.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Because it's gained quite a bit of usage. Not supporting it will mean a huge group of people won't be able to use Pigdin, which will only lead to more moaning about "Linux not being ready", etc.
- xXKobaXx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Hmm, sounds ok, but the feature that I will wait for, is video conversations via MSN. Adium needs video conversations!
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9i've been wondering how hard it would be to port pidgin for use on ppc/smartphones.
particularly attractive since their aren't many decent/free messaging clients out there.... - PolarZoe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You have to use port 5223 on talk.google.com
- DeathfireD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Thank you Justin Heiner for bringing the protocol icons back!
- justinjstark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Does it use telepathy yet?
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Or you know, you could ask Microsoft to be more kind to the community and help support other clients than their own MSN messenger...
...AHAHahaha.. sorry I couldn't keep a straight face.. Like Microsoft is just going to roll over and help.. - jdhore1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Adium will probably only get the stuff in the libpurple section of the changelog, but i'm pretty sure the XMPP/Jabber stuff is already in Adium since that stuff was coded for Adium and back-ported to Pidgin.
- computergod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Just a reminder: Please download the version without GTK if you are upgrading, it will save a lot of bandwidth.
- euvirtual, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Me too. :( Two summer of codes with msnp14 work and still nothing...
They still have this on their roadmap tough: "Milestone: Merge MSNP14 Branch Due in 5 hours (09/14/2007)" (check it out here: http://developer.pidgin.im/roadmap ).
Does this mean the next version will have it? - treed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I wonder when we'll get these features into Adium.
- konspence, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What you said wasn't random (it WAS unrelated to the parent, but not random), it was just conveniently placed underneath the first comment so everybody reads it.
- Malachai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Both of you missed the point.
- goyney, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This update breaks Google Talk. I can't get it working with Google's instructions and I can't get it working by using the 443 port with SSL either anymore. Anyone else have any luck?
- maybeway36, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Quick question: Does Pidgin have a setting for "thin" buddy list names, without avatars? (i.e. the AIM/Miranda/Kopete look)
- iwod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Do they even care, or work on MSNP14? 2 Year of Google Summer of Code and we still do not have personal message!!
I hope the dev could just come out and say something about this issue. - PuyoDead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Too bad MySpaceIM doesn't actually login for me (I've read if you have a password over 8 characters, it craps out). I'm not about to download the actual myspace client to try it there.
- PoptartKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3pretty sure that's in the far future.
however, one of the SoC projects was to let telepathy use libpurple. So if you want to use half implemented MyspaceIM or qq or gadu-gadu with your telepathy client, you're in luck! - Izacus, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Bleh... well... it's still aMSN for me then. Maybe they should aim for full MSNP14/15 support instead of other useless protocols.
- christophocles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3woot! now I can finally get my GF to stop using that horrible myspace IM client and only use pidgin. Did the world really need ANOTHER crappy and proprietary IM protocol? Just another reason to hate myspace, I guess...
Now if only pidgin could be as friendly with webcams and multimedia glitz as Trillian is. Chicks love that kind of stuff. Trillian seems a bit harder to set up, as well as being proprietary and non-free, but it's still a whole hell of a lot better than using AIM Triton+Yahoo+MSN+MyspaceIM simultaneously like so many (dumb) people do. Servicing such machines is quite a sickening experience. Apparently Trillian is working on myspace IM support but it won't materialize until their new "Astra" client is released. Guess the GF will just have to wait. - iofthestorm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, in Pidgin all protocols are implemented as plugins.
- thepxc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It could be implemented as a plugin (some protocols are already implemented that way). On source based distros, you can build it from source without MyspaceIM support.
It's not like the current Pidgin devs "wasted their time" putting together MyspaceIM support, either. It was part of a volunteer project by some student (from Google's Summer of Code) and they decided to support and include it. It's only bloat if you _can't_ remove it. - LANjackal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Still the BEST multiprotocol client out there and definitely one of the best FLOSS projects around :)
- guinpen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2nope, mine is 10 characters and logs in fine for me
- allnightbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Does this new version have support for skinning? Particularly, can it resemble the old Gaim or incorporate the native emoticons?
- kat81, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Err http://adiumx.com/beta/ the current beta, just released, has some of the new Pidgin 2.2.0 features already.
Next time, check. - akkuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I haven't upgraded my home computer after dreading turning it into the 2.1.1 look when I upgraded at work. Both myself and a friend of mine have waited to upgrade as we felt it was a step backwards for the UI of the conversations.
- gusevx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Which is in Google's instructions.
- worldtechguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I use mundu for my treo 650..it costs, but it's worked quite well for me.
- ZachS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There's no GUI support for changing themes, but you can change icon sets. Go to the directory where you installed Pidgin (windows: C:/Program/Files/Pidgin) then go to the folder "pixmaps" that's where all the icons are at.
Some examples of pre-made icon sets:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/My+AER-OS-XK+Pidgin+Theme?content=65364
You can just search for 'pidgin'
As for skinning, you can change the GTK theme, I believe since 2.1.1 (last version) Pidgin comes with a GTK theme switcher (for windows)
As for emotions, you can also search gnomeArt for emoticon themes such as:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/BigBlacy+-++Pidgin+theme?content=58722
Or you can try deviantart.com
I hope this helps. - kdog181518, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the myspaceim wouldnt work for me,keeps giving me error message saying i've given wrong password when i havent,so guess it was pointless for them to add it
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1or if you allready have any other gtk apps installed
such as abiword or gimp - oobuntu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1does kopete support multi-user chat rooms in jabber/XMPP?
- teaguecl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have witnessed the command line client (don't remember the name) using libpurple running on a Linux phone prototype. It was all done on the console, no GUI, but was fully functional.
- romeyinfc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If the MySpaceIM protocol really works, this is going to be the nail in the coffin for Trillian Astra. Astra's pretty, but the fact that it's taken them almost 2 years to come up with a release with new functionality has driven paying customers like me away from them. You lean to love the $25 a lot more than the glitz you get with Trillian.
- merwin, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1You're welcome!
- osbjmg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Which GTK theme are you using?
- lava, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7Does anybody else have issues with file transfers over AIM with pidgin? I've never been able to make it work.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1just use any of the umpteen xmpp clients... what kind of impact exactly would you expect an open source google talk client to have??? [not] listening...
