- mbsjoblom, on 12/30/2008, -1/+12In 2009 we will see the decline of Microsoft. It will be either fast or slow, but it will happen. There's nothing else in the world I hope more than this!!!
2008 was the 10 year anniversary for me using Linux, and I must say that the longer you use it the more hard it becomes to understand why majority of people still will have to use Windows and why do we tolerate the Microsoft way of stranglehold of PC manufacturers.
Windows is no way the most popular OS because of it's features. Windows is the most popular OS because that's all you are offered when you want to buy a PC and you are not aware of the choices. How sad!
I have installed Linux to my father's PC who is 78 years old and also to my childrens who are 5 & 9. No matter what age, or expertise, all of these persons are happy with Linux and they have absolutely no problems using it. Linux being more difficult than Windows is a big myth which will be broken during 2009. I sincerely hope so!!! - dupswapdrop, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2But when will sites like digg pay me for my time?
- 3242130193, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2OEMs are the biggest problem right now. If more can adopt Linux for preinstalls, then end users will wonder why they need that proprietary sack of crap and it will slowly be abandoned. Then major software manufacturers like Adobe and hardware companies like ATI and nVidia will give better support for Linux (if they have any already).
Some have already started. I just bought an AA1 with Linpus, in spite of my father's tireless arguments in favor of an XP machine. Vote with your dollar. It won't be smooth sailing at first, but the more we're willing to withstand, the sooner we can bring about change. Make it happen - it's in your hands, as long as you take it. - XeroXenith, on 12/30/2008, -0/+2Excellently said! IMO 2009 will be smoothing out the rough edges (hopefully audio), and '10 will start to see more widespread adoption, a little like we're seeing now with Macs.
- hooah212002, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1The one thing I would like to see is better/easier implementation of wireless card drivers.
- Sealbhach, on 12/31/2008, -0/+0There's no excuse not to move to Linux right now. I installed Ubuntu on my brother's Toshiba laptop after his Vista got riddled with viruses and spyware - cost him $100 to get it "fixed" so he begged me to install Ubuntu. After 8 months he's had absolutely no difficulty with it - even though he knows nothing about computers. About the drivers etc, easily fixed if the hardware people co-operate with Linux developers - when they do, Linux works out of the box. My wireless works perfectly in Ubuntu 8.10. People, stop being frightened sheep and ditch Microsoft for once and for all - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=d6wRkzCW5qI
