- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sounds great but couldnt you already put linux on it?
http://palm-linux.sourceforge.net/ - bourgeoisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg because anything but palmOS is a step in the right direction.
- palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dupe and PalmOS is not dead. No digg.
Cobalt is dead. Long live Palm Linux.
Garnet still lives but in a zombie state known as "Frankengarnet" - syuusuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A new beginning
- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if they can make it anything like the nokia 770 OS, then I will be very excited. Hopefully terminal will still be there and linux apps will be easily ported. SO X11 support better be there!
- FlyingLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeehaw!
- dukeinlondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That'd be the first serious attempt at using linux to provide a consistent platform. Wait and see. Still dug though ;-)
- hypercube33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Almost sad that the only, although ***** version of BeOS is now defunct.
I never did favor Palm though I had over 3 of their devices. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another win for anything but MS. Good!
- Fresno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0frackin good! now this little thing can grow up.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting. I'm not particularly a fan of Linux but this sounds like it has a lot of potential.
- CyberCrash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they're going to be using the same internet browser as the psp
- sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haven't looked through yet, but the question I find myself asking is "will my brand new T|X run Linux?"
- rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that freakin rocks. i was thinking of buying a new palm but was hesitant (as i have few dollars to spend).
- zootm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It's about time, Palm sucks. I've got a great Pocket PC, but unfortunatly it looks like they're slowly fading out. For the most part everything I really use my PPC for is available on my phone."
That's the biggest problem. Although newer PDAs have incredibly advanced capabilities (I work with them, and it still surprises me), most of what they were traditionally used for is now covered by phones, and people are finding it difficult to find uses for the newer models. "Executive toy" is not as large a market as things like this should be able to appeal to, and many makers are really looking for places to use this technology, to make it more marketable. - SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0another battle line between microsoft and oss has been drawn. Money vs freedom
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't even read the article, think it got the digg effect already!
- viperzonedotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So where can I download this new Software?
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i've heard it's not either gnome ot kde, but does use the Gtk toolkit which is common to gnome, so it should look quite nice, and howfully we get a terminal on it and have some fun ^_^
- zachtib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice. i was going to buy a treo 700p, but now it looks like ill hold out for a treo that runs linux
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Palm should have done this years ago. Especially since every palm-top that cuts to Linux immediately jacks the price so far above WinCE devices that hardly anyone can buy them in the West. Of course, they're only released in Asia so that's another factor. I'm not bitter.
- thewhitefedora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bill Gates is like "Oh crap, now we got to battle them on handhelds too"
- TechnoPops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"dugg because anything but palmOS is a step in the right direction."
Including Windows Mobile? - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"...Cobalt is dead..."
STOP saying that! boo hoo hoo! *sniff* *sniff* waaaaa! - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's about time, Palm sucks. I've got a great Pocket PC, but unfortunatly it looks like they're slowly fading out. For the most part everything I really use my PPC for is available on my phone.
- alphaterminus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, I can't wait to turn these into a Beowolf cluster
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a command line PDA, who woulda thunk.
- FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wise man once say:
"Women come and women go. But I'll always have my palm."
Not the same as ". . .always have my ALP."
Maybe I'm confused?
. . . ;-) - andrewd2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have Treo 600, and can't wait for this to be formally released so I can switch. Yeah!
- chrishurley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People love to pop off about how "palm is dead"... "palmos" is dead. I'm sure Bill appreciates your assistance.
- nuxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0cool...so can we expect KDE or GNOME on Palm?? (Even XFCE or IceWM would be fine...)
- grakker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I always get a little pissed when I see a bunch of people whining about "This is a DUPE...boo ***** hoo!" Not like everyone sits on digg clicking refresh or clicking their rss feed to be entertained. But then I saw this in my rss feed and my first thought was DUPE.
That doesn't make me feel good. Just makes me feel like I've got to surf (in the ocean) more so that I go to sleep quicker. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0dupe + old.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0This could be awesome. Palm OS was good, but destined for failure in the long run.
http://www.gfx.com - nvrmnd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0nice, front page dupe once again
