- darkchild, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I find it a bit misleading to judge a distros popularity using the distrowatch hits per day counter. That counter simply shows the number of people who clicked on a certain page on distrowatch but not actual users of a distro.
- seopher, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Very true, but it was written under the premise that the more people that click on PCLOS over Ubuntu were conveying a sense of popularity towards the former? It's not an accurate metric (oh how we wish we knew precisely how many of each there were) but this was just an idle pondering over the reasons for a shift in clicks.
- Waterrat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1 No it is not.
I feel a better look at what is most popular is to see which OS is actually being used by the populous to view Distrowatch...it would also be interesting to see the same thing as far as Digg users go.

- dukeinlondon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Strange given that PCLinuxOS (albeit very good imho) doesn't even generate a lot of blog/article interest at the moment. I hope for them it will translate in improved monetary support from their user community
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1PCLinuxOS seems like a good distro for Windows users to get started with.
- davidbattley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0perhaps this is why PCLinuxsOS gets more hits on distrowatch. If your new and your going to distrowatch you've probably already heard a lot about Ubuntu. my guess is people have just hear that PClinuxOS is good, but not a lot more, So they check it out on distrowatch to see what is what. They don't need to do that with Ubuntu because it has the blogs and articles that PCLinuxOS doesn't.
- ispep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Because PCLinuxOS users don't feel the need to spam the internet like ubuntu fanboys.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5PCLinuxOS seems to be a pretty good Distro. I can't see me moving from Ubuntu, but I would love to see a few more big Linux desktop distros
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yeah PCLinuxOS is a good distor, but Ubuntu just works for me and it works very well with my hardware.
- Spr0k3t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3PCLinuxOS is a good distro for sure... but the default interface is absolutely horrid.
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yeah PCLinuxOS is a good distor, but Ubuntu just works for me and it works very well with my hardware.
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Just remember that DW is not a scientific stat tool. There are also the Web stats from DW (not pageviews) that paint a different picture.
- ha1f, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Distrowatch is crap. I didn't know anyone even used that site anymore.
- armo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Google trends shows a very different story.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=ubuntu+%2C+pclinuxos+%7C+pclos- ispep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Hey fanboy, Google Trends is as reliable as DW rankings. GT also accounts for searches like "ubuntu sucks" "***** ubuntu" "die ubuntu fanboys".
- jbus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Distrowatch stats have been abused before... At one time Mandriva was up top because their webmaster was redirecting traffic to Distrowatch and Mandriva got a beat down because of that incident. http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20070122#sitenews
A sudden spike in page visits does not translate to a sudden increase in popularity.- ispep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's how ubuntu originally got to the top of the rankings.
