- asdffdas1234, on 10/04/2008, -3/+34What a country. Superior internet connections and proper standard format for documents. Would make my basement perfect.
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -9/+33Microsoft Office doesn't include it = Kick in the ass to Microsoft for being selfish pigs...
- PrometheusZero, on 10/04/2008, -1/+24It's the more XTREME version of .doc
- cheeseplease, on 10/04/2008, -2/+24Great news, but will it actually lead to more widespread adoption of ODF? Microsoft Office doesn't include it by default, although plugins are available.
- lordmetroid, on 10/04/2008, -1/+23I am a swede and as it is now an official standpoint of the Swedish government to use open formats I will whole heartily support this effort and no longer distribute documents in proprietary formats. Adapt or be unable to read my information.
- lebondarken, on 10/04/2008, -3/+21GO ODF!
- pafema, on 10/04/2008, -0/+17I doubt the whole country could fit in your basement.
- Soval, on 10/04/2008, -1/+17Neither is Sweden a third world country, nor is ODF terrible.
- guerraum, on 10/04/2008, -3/+18Governments starting to adopt the format is a huge step towards a more widespread adoption!! Now the next step is for the big companies to start adopting too, which would be an advantage for them as well, since it would improve compatibility and ease collaboration...
Besides, Word 2007 default format is .docx... i mean, c'mon!! - carpespasm, on 10/04/2008, -1/+16a pain in the ass that doesn't accomplish much.
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -2/+13good. wtf is "docx"??
- Culyt, on 10/04/2008, -0/+9ODF Support is apparently going to be in Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 (first half 2009).

☢ - Culyt, on 10/04/2008, -1/+6Expect it SP2 (early 2009), http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/may0 ...
Doesn't mean they won't ***** it up on purpose...
☢ - Nintendesert, on 10/04/2008, -3/+8It's not even close to Office2007. And with student discounts and other deals the price is right as well.
- st3vo, on 10/04/2008, -0/+5The Swedes know what's up when it comes to open source.
- GhostM, on 10/04/2008, -0/+4Hey dont toot your own horn!
- jay019, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2How much is the Linux version?
- srg13, on 10/05/2008, -0/+2Text formatting? Page layout? Images?
text files are useful, but not as useful as a document format. - Rudegar, on 10/04/2008, -8/+10dont use office much but price vs. features
openoffice > ms office - mohtasham, on 10/05/2008, -1/+3Can you install MS Office on Linux? No.
Do you think it can be standard, then? - infiniphunk, on 10/05/2008, -1/+2because it's useless.
- infiniphunk, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1Oftentimes big companies have to work to get government contracts to do work. Maybe if the governments are using odf in their departments, it could encourage contractors to also use this excellent and free document format standard.
- MichaelKthx, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1OMG!! microsoft is da god of all software companies, you will bow to them or else!!11
and there is no linux!!
...
O wait im on linux now ***** you bill gates - peterp772000, on 10/04/2008, -5/+6I've used them both. Open office can pretty much do whatever Microsoft Office can and it's free.
- clockdist, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1No, but I bet whatever Office productivity app you're using is compatible with MS Office formats; i.e. MS Office 95-2003 format is the *real* standard
- 7aji, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1c'mon give office a break, at least it got that helper which annoy the hell out of you every five minutes, and with every new version they update their save as game. hmmm I'm feeling like saving as Word 95 document this morning. Maybe later this afternoon I'll save it as Word 2007, Jim has 2003 so the sucker won't be able to open it (evil laugh hahaha)
- tushargok, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1Hell lot of job web sites and online web sites forcefully acept resumes and documents in .doc format. I just wish these sites should allow us to upload resumes and information in ODF format rather than .doc
- jay019, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Sorry, stupidly hit the wrong reply button.
- jay019, on 10/06/2008, -1/+1Damn I am dumb, here I am thinking that MS Office was a software product not a open doc standard.
- Protoman, on 10/04/2008, -2/+2Just wondering why this was submitted under the Linux/Unix section?
- eruanno, on 10/05/2008, -1/+1Dude, don't forget TPB.
- strevoir, on 10/05/2008, -2/+1It is mandatory for Microsoft Office to support ODF?
- inactive, on 10/04/2008, -6/+3It's time to buy some put options for MSFT.
- thedez, on 10/04/2008, -5/+2why not .txt?
- clockdist, on 10/05/2008, -6/+1oh please... the only real open doc standard is MS Office.
/avid OSX and Ubuntu user - kelmaster1, on 10/04/2008, -21/+4Uh they can't include everything, that's a ton of *****. They have it in one of their updates, along with a bunch of other file formats. Besides, Open Office sucks balls, at least the spreadsheet app does.
- pwnsey, on 10/04/2008, -32/+5If there's one way to make your country third world, its to make a terrible format like ODF standard.
