- Darkhacker, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1The problem is that Nvidia has probably signed dozens of non-disclosure agreements for many of the technologies in their graphics cards and wants to avoid any legal issues by keeping everything closed instead of taking the risk that something might slip through the cracks and release a spec that was under an NDA. I still believe that Nvidia should try to release everything that they legally can. Something is better than nothing.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -1/+2I used to be a fan of Nvidia. However, after waiting years for relatively minor bugs to be corrected, I'd rather use lower performance video (like Intel's open source X3100 or X4500) or incomplete open source drivers (like ATI's). At least I know that those are continually improving. In addition, if there's a minor bug, I know I can correct the code and submit a bug report - and everyone else in the community will benefit.
Unless and until Nvidia goes open source by either supporting the Nouveau project or releasing full specifications, I won't purchase another Nvidia based product.
