- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3SuSE may have given the RPM system a bit of a bad name with the fequent dependency mess/hell (talking from experience), which brought appeal to DEB and probably resulted in migration to distros like Ubuntu. I have read about such stories from others. Let's hope that Opensuse can get back on track and get something that is as powerful and reliable and Synaptic.
- sjvn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2openSUSE is heading back to the track. Now, if only Novell takes the hint, and puts SLED back on the same track.
Steven - darkchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can use SMART which is quite similar to apt.
- darkchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SUSEs package management was alright before they were bought out by Novell. After that, it turned into chaos because Novell wanted Zenworks, Redcarpet and other stuff that should really have been left for SLED to be put into openSUSE. I am glad they are getting rid of zenworks on openSUSE, because its been nothing more than a nuisance.
- diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's about time. How many freaking package managers do they have? Yast, zmd, zypper, rug, red carpet, and they all seem to conflict with each other. I can't even keep up with what the hell is going on half the time when I'm installing packages in Suse.
Suse: Stick with 1 command-line package installer and 1 gui package installer and life will be easier for both developers and users.
Oh and work on the GUI being more responsive and not hanging for 5 minutes before redrawing the window. It's annoying when the progress bar is stuck at 100% for 20 seconds too...if it says 100% it better damn well be finished. - Barleyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I installed Opensuse 10.2 on my new server because it seemed to build the sofware array much faster than debian. But one thing I CANT STAND is installing packages via yast. Is there any alternative to Yast that works reliably on SUSE similar to apt-get or aptitude?
- jshabad00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is good news... SUSE updaters have given me nothing but problems in 10.1 and 10.2.
- edke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can use apt on openSUSE as well, use this wiki:

best SUSE package management experience, now I have my ultimate distro, opensuse with apt power.
