- kd420, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2For the boot loader, I suggest using Startup-Manager (I know you can get it through synaptic in Ubuntu). It lets you easily change a bunch of options (boot time, number of kernels to list, colours in list) as well as the splash screen (default orange ubuntu with orange bar). You can get a ton of these from gnome-look.org under "splash screens".
- SugaryToaster, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Yeah I also use startupmanager.. For the Ubuntu noobs: If you cant figure out how to run it after installing, just open a terminal and type sudo startupmanager. Or right-click on your desktop and choose "create launcher" and in the command area type "sudo startupmanager" (without the quotes of course), click ok and now you have quick easy access to it.
I have another cool little trick that most dont know about. If you want nameless launchers/icons on your desktop do this: Right-click the icon/launcher and select "rename" then while holding down ctrl and shift type u2008. You now have a nameless launcher on your desktop. :) Makes the desktop look a lot better without all that text under your icons. IMO anyway.. Have fun! Works under Gnome only afaik.. I havent tested it with Kubuntu as I dont use it. If you dual-boot, you can also do it in windows.. Same steps as above, but instead of ctrl+shift+u2008, hold down alt and type 255. Just felt like sharing... =) - TunaFishGangsta, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1this has not even hit the front page and article is not found
- Vadi0, on 09/14/2008, -4/+1Less terminal commands would've been helpful.
(they'll learn the terminal later if they want it)
