- bysin, on 03/05/2008, -1/+10I hope they know that a car cant actually move like that. It looks like it was occasionally moving horizontally, and stopping / accelerating almost instantly. This would only be possible if the car itself has no weight. and was floating on air.
- z0mbie2099, on 03/05/2008, -3/+10You're a loser.
- banin1, on 03/05/2008, -1/+5That would be why it's still in Alpha.... there's a lot of tweaking left to do. Was it just me or did the landscape look a lot like one of the older Gran Turismo's?
- jtbndy, on 03/05/2008, -0/+2I'll stick to rFactor and GTR2 for my racing needs.
- swrostmore, on 03/05/2008, -1/+3A car that drifts horizontally? I can't imagine why that would happen in a "drift physics test"... you should file a bug report...
- chris9902, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1I lol'd
- fcrow, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1" New Linux game in progress" So that makes a total of 5??
(I'm going for the thumbs down today) - Kingoftherings, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1Looks like a good game so far, but I'm hoping for some updated visuals.
- tehbeermang, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1This will cause divorce in my household. Driving games are evil. I am addicted to them. Now that something a bit more grown up than Tux Cart is "free", there's no stopping me from playing it.
- faraggi, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1It`s actually really bad. I hope they can imporve it alot before the final release.
- DanielSefton, on 03/09/2008, -0/+0We're in the Alpha stages for a reason.
The weight distribution and friction needs tweaking. The car is lighter at one side, therefore it relies on the weight transition technique and power over-steer for drifting. And, uhh... Yes, it moves horizontally; basically the point of drifting: "where a car slides at an angle, with its side moving forward".
As for the quick acceleration, there is no gearbox. It travels from speed A to B at the moment. - DanielSefton, on 03/09/2008, -0/+0Who said it was for Linux? It's for all platforms.
- DanielSefton, on 03/08/2008, -0/+0First of all, thanks for digging this, we appreciate it. I'm glad to see that the majority of Linux users welcome a new free racing game.
However, a rant towards most of those who commented...
We have worked on this game for a few MONTHS with ONE developer. Do you honestly think that at this stage we would have a perfect racing game completed? We have only just started, and I feel offended that you cannot see just how advanced it actually is compared to other free racing games at this early stage.
- The image used to illustrate this digg was from the shockwave version back in 2004.
- The YouTube video is terrible quality, since our screen-capturing software is not up to scratch.
As for the visuals, take into account that:
1) There are no shadows in any of the screenshots or footage. Shadows practically make the visuals of every 3D game.
2) We have not even touched the lighting yet. There is no texture baking.
3) There are no shaders on the cars.
4) The track and car models were originally created for the shockwave version of the game, so they are unbelievably low-poly. You will think again when you know that the track featured in the video was created by a 14 year old, is just 3000 polygons and was created in Blender.
5) We are developing post-processing effects such as motion blur and HDR. These are not shown in any of the screenshots or footage.
I don't have enough room to even comment on the physics...
Please evaluate your ideas before you make such negative remarks! Grr. -.- :P

Daniel - OpenRacer.org.
