- TazgodX, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2the best MythTV distro out. i have tried them all and none compare!
only problem is lack of LVM support, but its easy to implement it after the initial install.
Also one of the best support IRC channels!!!! - laga, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1carro9,
as tgm4483 stated, it's not a fork. It's basically a custom CD. Converting Ubuntu Gutsy into Mythbuntu is as easy as clicking a link on our website . Alternatively, you can just sudo apt-get install mythbuntu-control-centre manually.
As you can see, our packages are available in the Ubuntu archives:
* https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythbuntu-lir ...
* https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythbuntu-con ...
* https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv
* and some other packages: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+search?text=mythbunt ...
As you can see in the changelog for mythbuntu-lirc-generator for example, our software is already being improved by other members of the community (I'm referring to "Include support for Elisa and Totem lircrc generation" by Florian Boucault).
Also, our the source code of our custom software is available in launchpad:
* https://code.launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/
* https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mythtv/
So, yes, the "innovation" is already back in Ubuntu. This "innovation" is what makes "apt-get install mythtv" even easier than before - if you don't want to use mythbuntu-control-centre.
Regards,
Michael - tgm4883, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1A few reasons actually.
1. Why would I want to run/install additional software (that is unneeded) so I can create a standalone MythTV system?
2. Unlike other MythTV distro's, Mythbuntu is closely related to Ubuntu, giving everything back to the Ubuntu Repos. So this isn't really a fork, more of a custom set of packages on a CD. Do you also dislike Kubuntu?
3. Because of #2(and a great piece of software written by superm1), converting a system between a standalone and a Ubuntu Desktop is pretty easy.
4. Many of the same people that make the MythTV packages available for Ubuntu put together Mythbuntu, why don't you thank them :) So the innovation is already back in Ubuntu. - laga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right, make sure to give it a try - it's quite possible you'll fall in love with the improved hardware support, especially for remotes (as opposed to Ubuntu Feisty).
I especially like that you can now Xfce to work with your MythTV box like it was a normal computer, making it easier to administrate that box. Go and get it! - tgm4883, on 10/13/2007, -1/+2Agreed. I like how Mythbuntu stays so close to It's origins (Ubuntu) and makes it so easy to switch back and forth.
- tgm4883, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1RC time. You know what that means. Final release is right around the corner. I can't wait.

- kolakutusu, on 07/14/2008, -0/+0Ubuntu is the my favoite.

http://www.bid-directory.net - carro9, on 10/14/2007, -4/+1Why not install Ubuntu and then just apt-get mythtv? Easy as that... Send the innovation into Ubuntu. Too many forks.
