Move /home to it’s own partition

ubuntu.wordpress.com — Having the “/home” directory tree on it’s own partition has several advantages, the biggest perhaps being that you can reinstall the OS (or even a different distro of Linux) without losing all your data.

    Using Ubuntu 8.10 I get an error trying to copy the current (old) home to the new_home.
    i.e the instruction :
    find . -depth -print0 | cpio –null –sparse -pvd /mnt/newhome/
    produces an error which says:
    cpio: You must specify one of -oipt options.
    Try `cpio --help' or `cpio --usage' for more information.

    I quess the syntax for all this crap changes with every version.
