- lengau, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20Again another reason why we should have a way to add links to a preexisting story. (Hint hint, Kevin)
- samdu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Am I the only one that finds it kind of odd that a Linux/Java phone comes with Windows Media Player 11 installed?

What's the point of putting Linux on a phone without allowing people to freely add to it? - schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -8/+21The actual article is already in the front page (submitted by Rick). Please eavoid linking to doorway pages like OSNews. You keep doing this and it leads to duplicates, it 'dilutes' Diggs, and it's just not very helpful.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Linux on a phone:
- The microphone isn't supported - fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Via text message .....
- jshabad00, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8sudo apt-get install malsa

Not an open source based OS for the new Rokr / Razr? I'm sure these phones will have an astonishing hack community! I've already enjoyed a lot of goodies you can brew with my Razr V3m =3 - nirvanix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I find it odd too. How is that going to work? I don't really want WMP 11 on a linux phone anyway. What the hell is wrong with mplayer?
- rhavenn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Course, if you link a couple of articles through (the eWeek one) the AT&T / Cingular and Verizon phones will still use the old OS and only the T-Mobile one will use the Linux OS.
quote: The GSM/EDGE version of the RAZR 2, also known as the V8, will run Motorola's new Linux/Java operating system. It will also have a mind-boggling 420MB of on-board memory and a text-to-speech engine that will read your text messages out to you. The high-speed models, the HSDPA V9 and the EVDO V9m, will run Motorola's older Synergy operating system.

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What dumb-ass would dig that factual statement down?
Zander's a ***** if he thinks anyone gives a rat's ass about what's powering an execrable UI. Motorola should spend less time dicking around with worthless changes and more time fixing its pathetic, unusable design.
And NO SDK? WTF is the point then?
*****. Look at Dell: They thought customer service and quality didn't matter, and for years they got away with it. Then they got spanked HARD. Motorola thinks good design, functionality, and usability don't matter. Their spanking has just begun. - Piglith, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Well if they actually do release a Linux phone that allows people to freely add/program to it. Then I would seriously consider it over the iPhone. As per they've already stated that it will not be able to openly add to it.
To top off that, I would love to see a company actually sell a product that doesn't have restrictions where they make more money off the existing product. If I want more, I'll look to the 2nd, 3rd version of the product to upgrade. Locked software features don't sell the phone. The new hardware functions sell the phone. People who shell out more to add a ring tone or background get what they pay for. - flag564, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3"At least this time you didn't accuse me of being a Microsoft MVP or some other ridiculous thing. Good job."
I think he's just angry he didnt get to it first. - pyite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I just got one of these:

Motorola Ming, runs Linux. - d03boy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Related Links" perhaps?
- TeamRocket, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4There is a GOD!!!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1420 MB of memory. And what do you want to bet that the contacts still won't have ADDRESSES? And there still won't be tasks or memos. And still no working software to sync with Outlook.
Oh, and how about a "wavy" keyboard with numbers that aren't arranged in rows? And a button on the side that turns your ringer off if something in your pocket hits it? Because those are the kind of innovations we've come to expect from Motorola.
And finally, a really great new name. I suggest SHTR. - slochewie, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0that's frickin awesome. a green shrek happy meal box too.
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3The only reason I linked to OSNews is because it had multiple links on the page otherwise I normally bypass them.
And the story didn't show up and if I do submit something which I find out is a dupe I'll gladly comment and say so, for example: http://digg.com/tech_news/DoD_to_block_MySpace_Youtube_and_11_other_sites_from_soldiers
At least this time you didn't accuse me of being a Microsoft MVP or some other ridiculous thing. Good job.
