There are those who build a closed stack, but.......... It's not just about freedom; it funds the kernel's development --- a kernel which we all share because it goes upstream, so to speak. For that reason, even Bad Ellison is a friend, not a foe. Anything that attaches strings to the GNU toolchain and the kernel makes it impossible to extinguish. Ask the US government how it feels about Microsoft wishing to 'collect' royalties...
