But when you are powerful it is hard not to abuse the power. - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -5/+102Good thing they're not abusing power. Try typing "microsoft" - that doesn't work either. seems more like a copyright/trademark thing than anything else.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -12/+83yeah, try "microsoft" too.
or "windows"
OMG MICROSOFT HATES MICROSOFT AND WINDOWS. OMGOMGOMG, INAPPROPRIATE!!!!! ***** MICROSOFT WAAA WAAAAHHH WAAAHHHH. - schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+73It's even worse in Yahoo. http://slated.org/yahoo_censoring_open_source
- TheAcclaimed, on 10/10/2007, -8/+73http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4732/linuxaq3.png
This is true people, try it yourself. - Borramakot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+50Alright, I tried. If you have one word, linux, it blocks it. Caps dont matter. If you combine it gnu or anything else, it doesnt block it.
- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -8/+47That's not the same thing at all.
- ButterBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -7/+46I wish I could remember my motto...my xbox360 has been away for repairs for months now.....
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37Here's a better analogy: would Apple object to you having a pro-Dell .Mac page? If anyone at Apple even bothered to notice, they might be slightly peeved, but they wouldn't penalize you. Heck, you're still paying them, why should they care?
- mikelieman, on 10/10/2007, -21/+52And we got actual source code, not some lame 2000 year old fanfic.
- Jones82, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33It'll become true once it hits 100 diggs
- jasmus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33Should have read this before I dugg... so little info.
- 2kude, on 10/10/2007, -14/+44That's a peace symbol, not the Nazi Germany Swastika, you uneducated *****.
- mc7winkie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29In Ghost Recon 2 it wouldn't let you send messages that said halo 2 in them.
- BillDoE, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28The funny part is that I've seen hundreds of mottos that really aren't appropriate.
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29Yeah, see. If I pay for, say, an HP printer, it makes perfect sense that it might have something in it that would black out any instances of Lexmark I print, right? Sure it's legal, but it's an asinine thing to do and a sign of weakness that you have to censor your competitors and that you deny free speech to your customers. They don't like that.
- fac3less, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Cute icon :)
- Sornos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Actually, they do not allow your examples. God, Allah, Jesus and Christ are all blocked.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24as in procreate with it to make it better? That's what linux is all about.
***** Linux everyone! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24It doesn't allow Microsoft or Windows either.
- Coy0te, on 10/10/2007, -20/+42Who cares, Its an OS people not a ***** way of life.
- slamtv7, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26What the *****?
- bradleyland, on 10/10/2007, -8/+28The problem for Microsoft is, Linux is not a direct competitor to the XBox or the XB Live service. Have you forgotten the whole anti-trust lawsuit filed against Microsoft? Do you remember the behavior that they were sued for? By blocking Linux on XB Live, they are taking part in the same anti-competitive bullshi... -- I mean behavior -- that they got in trouble for in round 1.
- jgdogg182, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19This is true. Tried it Other words that are blocked:
Jesus
Christ
Bill Gates
If anyone finds any more post them here!
LOL can't say Bill Gates - Markus123, on 10/10/2007, -10/+29They don't let you use "Microsoft" or "Linux" in it - they ban a LOT of company names/words from being in there, seriously... whiny Linux users need to die. (No, not every Linux user is whiny - comment only aimed at the annoying ones)
- Dustmuffins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20That isn't a nazi swastika, notice the dots.
Enlightenment:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -13/+31It might work, but its blatantly inaccurate.
Mac users don't think, they delegate that to their shiny white overpriced computer. - Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I think you would just get a big fat "LOL" from Microsoft
- muffinmanpoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Exactly. If they tried to censor it, it would cause much more PR damage than the page could on its own.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -11/+28moron..as I pointed out when you basically posted the same thing in the article...you look like a ***** idiot when you show the world htat you think that freedom of religion applies to PRIVATELY owned web sites.
- wrongway, on 10/10/2007, -40/+56Many linux users are religious zealots about their OS of choice.. MS seems to allow Jesus and Allah. They just selectively persecute religions that they disagree with... Isn't this a violation of someones civil rights????
- Heroman87, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16In the super nintendo game "Uniracers" you can't use the name "Sonic" either, it says it isn't cool enough. I guess companies just don't like people using competing companies' stuff in their product. ( Pic of uniracers I just screenshotted: http://tinyurl.com/33sugu )
- Gerbil_Juice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15How precisely is having the world "Linux" in an XBL name "manipulationg their software"?
- juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -6/+21Is there any proof that this is true?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17It doesn't allow 'microsoft' to be used either.
Stop being a ***** 'victim' and realize that its more to do with copyrights and trademark stuff than any perceived censorship. - atdigg, on 10/10/2007, -7/+21Linux is a trademark
- espire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Um... the Wii, which doesn't fit into either of your categories?
- Bleeblaow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Huh? Care to explain?
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20How do I know if you aren't actually a Microsoft employee?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13welcome to 2 years ago.
- JayD16, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17So? Not letting people talk about Linux is still promoting a Windows monopoly.
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20Its a shame when companies have to resort to censorship as a way to attempt to maintain a monopoly. Microsoft, are you afraid that people may actually think of your product as inferior?
- UncleCrapper, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I wonder if you'd maintain that argument if your landlord barged into your home or apartment and demanded that you take down certain pictures from the walls or that you remove certain furniture because he found it objectionable. After all, you are just a "guest" in his apartment, aren't you?
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17That is just a ridiculous rationale, dude.
1) Shout ANYTHING in a store (i.e. being an *****) and they will ask you to please keep it down, or escort you out, for being an *****.
2) "Openly advertise"? You mean like wearing an Apple Tshirt in a Dell store? or a Target shirt in a WalMart? No one gives a *****.
That said, MS has every right to decide what is allowable on their service. Just try to keep your analogies a bit more clear, ffs.
And quit repeating your posts in the same Digg, We all heard you the first time. - fusama, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12turquoise bicycle shoe fins actualize radishes greenly
- Seven001, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Much as I happen to hate Microsoft, my hate doesn't blind me. The name Linux is trademarked. I'm sure that's why its on the list. Blizzard does something similar/the same in WoW in regards to names. If you insist in bashing Microsoft, at least make it intelligent and for things they deserve to be bashed for.
- LegendarySock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Learn to speak English, then rant.
- Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9This is the same illogic which prevents me from clipping my nails on a commercial aircraft - so don't discount it outright.
