- johnomaz, on 05/14/2008, -5/+91Wow, linux gets a game, and not just any game, a 3 year old game.
- schestowitz, on 05/14/2008, -8/+94Sober game. No wine.
- Nicolyrezk, on 05/14/2008, -8/+67A 3 year old game.. for $50.
Buried. - JamesLee007, on 05/14/2008, -9/+50Oh dang, a 3-year-old Diablo clone? Linux gamers must get excited for anything I guess.
- castir0n, on 05/14/2008, -7/+45Not that im not a linux or a gaming fan.. just curious why a 3 year old port is making front page news?
- litkaj, on 05/14/2008, -2/+34No, the real question is why try and sell it at full price. A 3 year old game is worth $20 at most.
- i4mt3hwin, on 05/14/2008, -0/+26I think Savage 2 has a linux game client out, or in the works as well.
- coheedcollapse, on 05/14/2008, -4/+24$50 for a three year old, mediocre-rated, Linux port. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
- Pyehole, on 05/14/2008, -4/+24Because Linux gamers need all the good news they can get.
- deaftly, on 05/14/2008, -8/+27WOW WHAT MINDBLOWING NEWS!
- BigManOnCampus, on 05/14/2008, -5/+24Happiness for me would be the next fallout game ported to linux.
- felderado, on 05/14/2008, -1/+15You can......
- Skizzot, on 05/14/2008, -4/+17sucked on windows, i dont think its going to be any better three years later on linux.
- bjornski, on 05/14/2008, -2/+13For full "new game" prices! Woohoo!
- stuffradio, on 05/14/2008, -0/+11The only reason I haven't fully switched fully to Linux is the lack of fully ported games. I would rather have native gaming support. I do have it installed on a spare computer having it as my server though.
- Jambi, on 05/14/2008, -5/+16I'm not sure which is worse, accidental or intentional use of what I like to call "idiotspeak".
- TotalHalibut, on 05/14/2008, -3/+14Pfft, if you want a modern title for Linux, get Savage 2. http://s2games.com
- dvicklund, on 05/14/2008, -2/+12At least his joke was funny.
- Noneus, on 05/14/2008, -0/+10Savage2 Client for Linux was released a couple of weeks ago.
- DJCamCam78, on 05/14/2008, -7/+17I can't wait till Free Cell or 3D Space Cadet Pinball get ported for $60
- inactive, on 05/14/2008, -4/+14So, linux gets an old game that no one plays and looks like a crappy version of Diablo 2? This is news?
I'll stick to Wine or games like ETQW, thanks. - tehmacuser, on 05/14/2008, -5/+15It's intentional, like "pwned" instead of "owned"
- pkonink, on 05/14/2008, -0/+8There are plenty of linux users who will pay for a game. They just don't exist in the numbers that Windows users do. At least not right now.
- stits, on 05/14/2008, -6/+15The real question is why? Why port a three year old game? A previous post mentioned Cedega.
- bjornski, on 05/14/2008, -2/+10I guess it beats Tux Racer....
- TotalHalibut, on 05/14/2008, -1/+9Haha, stop pretending to know anything about games.
- ats314, on 05/14/2008, -0/+8$50 ain't what it used to be.
- azimir, on 05/14/2008, -0/+8You called it, you get to eat it:

Personally, I don't run Steam/CS:S on Linux, but a number of my friends do. - inactive, on 05/14/2008, -1/+10You want to compete with microsoft? The best way to do that is take the gaming market away from it.
If linux was an os for most games, most of the pc gaming gurus would have no reason to stay with windows. - Ademan, on 05/14/2008, -1/+9I've been doing it literally for years... cs:s included... well, less time on cs:s obviously.
- Splimola, on 05/14/2008, -6/+13And there was much rejoicing... from both linux gamers in the world.
- mccord, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9great game! played the heck out of it with some friends on lan-multiplayer a few years back.
now i wish i had a backup of my char :/ - cjnkns, on 05/14/2008, -3/+11Could we please get something a bit more current.....
I like linux and all but it has got to get some games on it. - PatrickBrown, on 05/14/2008, -2/+9It is a matter of using libraries that are not locked into Windows - i.e. no DirectX for example - as well as having a method of online distribution. It would require relatively little effort and little money to produce a game that can be simultaneously released on Linux if it already uses a library that is available to Linux (such as OpenGL), assuming the game would be released online (in-store box releases for games will not happen due to cost).
Thus a successful recipe for linux/windows games:
1. Use libraries and technologies that are available to Linux.
2 (a). Have an online distribution system in place since having a boxed version dedicated to Linux would be too expensive.
- or -
2 (b). Have both disks in the box (or three for Mac too). However, even this would likely be more expensive than an online distribution. - GalacticXenu, on 05/14/2008, -3/+10And will the Linux market PAY for it at this price?
Doubtful. That's the point. - Skizzot, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8Do you seriously think Lineage or Rappelz looks like this? Im pretty sure Lineage II was built on the unreal engine.Comments like this make me think 1/2 of digg is full of retards.
- bobbarkerbilly, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7I would buy Battlefield 2 in a heart beat if they made a linux port.
- ucdbunny, on 05/14/2008, -7/+14***** thing SUCKSS!
- GalacticXenu, on 05/14/2008, -2/+8Most people don't even know what Linux is or that it exists. Please, think a little more critically. Linux isn't perfect but you can't chalk everything down to price.
- leszek, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7cedega is not needed.
Diablo II works perfectly under wine:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=a ... - ubuwalker31, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6As a proud linux user, who uses a few different flavors of linux, I think it is important to say that linux isn't necessarily "better" than Windows or OSX. It is a matter of personal preference, philosophy, technical knowhow, and using the right tool for the job. For example, I run an extremely small home business on the side, and I prefer to use software where I don't have to pay "commercial license fees" or be restricted in the use of my software by the vendor. Its a matter of ethics. When I want to play Call of Duty, I switch over to my Windows Home machine.

http://www.google.com/search?q=counterstrike+on+li ... - pkonink, on 05/14/2008, -1/+10WoW runs fine with WINE. And it runs excellent in Cedega. LOTRO can run in WINE - someone even ported the (.NET) launcher to linux so it runs and updates itself, but it takes a little work - I never used LOTRO with Cedega. EVE Online already has a linux client as far as I know. But I played that through Cedega two years ago. Never tried and NCSoft games in linux but I would wager they will run also with WINE in varying degrees. http://appdb.winehq.org/
- DetpackJump, on 05/14/2008, -1/+7Sacred Gold was just a re-release of Sacred with some expansion stuff, so it's really a 4 year old game.
- teaguecl, on 05/14/2008, -6/+13If you have to ask why Linux is better than everything else, then you don't get it. That probably means Windows is a better choice for you, enjoy it.
- SteveMax, on 05/14/2008, -2/+7which is why desktop users either pirate Windows or get it "free" with their computers.
- xNIBx, on 05/14/2008, -3/+8Which also has a 73 or 77 score on metacritic.

- zerodogg, on 05/14/2008, -0/+5No, though online play is available
