- diemunkiesdie, on 07/26/2008, -4/+77It works both ways, some Linux users try to make their interface look like Windows too.
- inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+68Um...OK. What exactly was the point of that "article"?
- JamesMorris, on 07/26/2008, -5/+44Buried due to a ***** waste of my internet time.
- MistaMatt90, on 07/26/2008, -2/+38That was stupid...
- samanathon, on 07/26/2008, -4/+32So, because there are Linux themes to make your distro look like Vista, XP or a Mac, does that mean that some users hate Linux?
- Roger, on 07/26/2008, -0/+20It's pointless.
Wanting to change the appearance of your desktop doesn't make you a "Linux secret lover". - inactive, on 07/26/2008, -1/+17Is it me, or is

actually Ubuntu and not Windows trying to look like Ubuntu. Actually it looks like Ubuntu trying to be like OSX - inactive, on 07/26/2008, -3/+19http://www.gnome-look.org/index.php?xsortmode=down ...
Most downloaded themes in gnome looks are Mac OSX and Vista lookalikes. Right back at you. - Roger, on 07/26/2008, -2/+18Or maybe they're tired of the default Windows look, but don't have the patience to deal with Linux issues?
- z0mb13, on 07/26/2008, -0/+6I don't understand what this has to do with kevin or why you clicked the link in the first place. Please stop whining like a little bitch.
- banmaster, on 07/26/2008, -8/+14Hell, XP looks better than most linux installs.
- cgbspender, on 07/26/2008, -2/+7I like Linux a lot, but that article is stupid. When somebody wants to have the nice look of Linux' desktop (wait ... which one? another stupid point) it does not mean they automatically envy everything Linux has, from filepaths they do not understand to problems with hardware (for which are usually the manufacturers to blame ... but still it is a problem).
Buried for arrogance and stupidity. You are NOT doing Linux a favor with stuff like that! - PabloMac, on 07/26/2008, -0/+4Which you just extended with your comment.
And so did I. - PabloMac, on 07/26/2008, -3/+7Wow, most versions of Linux must really look hideous.
- infiniphunk, on 07/26/2008, -1/+5pointless trolling.
- LoganSerman, on 07/26/2008, -6/+9I actually have Windows installed on another partition that I use like .05% of the time, but I themed that to look like Linux. I love Linux, but it isn't a secret ;]
- Zounas, on 07/26/2008, -2/+6The only Linux theme related thing in my Windows at the moment is Ubuntu Satanic Edition wallpaper (it just looks nice).
- fuzzynyanko, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4I wonder if that would be a prank to pull on a hardcore *nix user
- batmanz, on 07/26/2008, -20/+24I'm sorry, but Vista looks a lot better than most versions of linux.
- czarr, on 07/26/2008, -3/+6Windows= here is a pretty UI. Hope you like it cause you can't really change much
Linux= Here are the tools to make your desktop look and function however you want. (which includes looking exactly like vista/XP so your points are moot) - linksus, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4I was one of these chicken people. I worked in IT, i heared of linux, infact id been forced to even use the terminal on servers from time to time, but never actaulyl had the guts yo install it and use it at home.
Then one day i got a promotion, and sorta had to use linux. So i installed FedoraCore 6 and that was it. I decided i had to learn it and decided id have to do everything thru it.
A few years later.. I wouldnt go back.. I would encourage anyone who wants to play with linux. Do so. Dont hold out. Stay with it an d you will love it. - Cenobite, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4This is true in my case. I've been a fan of the Windows Vista visuals and colour-scheme for a while and often use Vista-esque themes in my Linux desktop environments.
I've been using Linux for almost eight years now and have worked as a sys/net admin, so I wouldn't describe myself as being "afraid" of lightweight window managers... And I use Ubuntu, so screw you, scrap3r. - sporktek, on 07/26/2008, -3/+5I don't know that most of Linux "secret lovers" are "too chicken" to install it. If many are like me they've installed it dozens of times just to find some hardware they need isn't "fully" supported (read: not supported) or there's just some strange issues they can't get past.
I've never considered it a symptom of some "secret love" to install Windows [sic] Blinds on a PC and theme it to look like anything else either. I've used WindowBlinds since it's initial release years and years ago to theme Windows systems to look, well, like *anything* different, not just Linux and not so much because I love the other OS, rather, because I was tired of UI options on Windows. - fatas, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2dugg for Carmen Elektra's ass
- Doji, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2Intrepid doesn't work in Virtual Box yet, check launchpad. It's slated to be fixed in one of the upcoming Alphas. Hardy should work perfectly for you.
- lacrimossjr, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2bury me
- n3tfury, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2i'm sure that some of those shots are indeed linux and NOT windows.
- sporktek, on 07/26/2008, -2/+4No, but if you take the aricle at face value, that does mean that some Linux users "secretly love" Windows.
- ChayesFSS, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3sorry you couldn't figure it out
- infiniphunk, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3trolling at its worst. Very bad taste. Childish and stupid.
- allyant, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3Doesn't this article prove that you CAN change a lot in windows?
- inactive, on 07/26/2008, -1/+2Now, now, Czarr:
You know good an' well that options scare people. I mean, they might have to make an actual effort and stretch what they know to gain some actual control over their OS. No, that's not what this country stands for. If it's not pre-made, proprietary, full of resource-hogging eye-candy, bells & whistles, then it can't possibly be worthy of using. Besides, we all know that it's what's on the outside that counts. Shame on you, I say ... shame!
(Merrily goes about his way in Debian Land, LoL) - pendrachken, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1@ cl0n3x
The point I was trying to make was this:
cl0n3x you ARE NOT helping open source ideals by calling people names.
Also, so what if Linux is open source? open source does not immediately make a program better ( it MAY in the long run... ) There are thing currently that windows does do better because of hardware support. Yes it would be nice if all hardware was supported in Linux right now. And yes, on the other hand there are some things that Linux does better than windows. Video encoding is one of them, my encoding box runs Linux because I can have a minimalist install using less resources and get almost a 60% performance increase. Yet my machine for effects, transitions and compositing of the converted clips runs windows... simply because the tools on that platform are better than the alternatives on Linux.
As I said different platforms for different users / uses. - mdman, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Lame....
No wonder Google wont pay for this site when its got crappy stuff on the first page all the time.
Slashdot is starting to look better every day - sweetumssama, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Why should people go through the hassle of dual boot if linux doesn't bring them any additional functionality?
- cl0n3x, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1How the ***** are linux users too stupid to use Windows? Linux is an entirely different concept as an OS and in no way can be compared to being easier to use than Windows. Also, did you not see the part where I said use wine or DUAL BOOT? Linux is open source, and that should be enough reason to use it.
- sysop073, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1This whole article is specious. If users think making their OS look like another one means they like the other one, they're very, very confused. Who cares what it looks like?
- therernospoons, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I just want to know where I can get that theme! What is it called?
- Ziraku, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Buried as inaccurate. A lot of these are actually Linux. You can tell by some of the context menus, or things that window blinds can't possibly do.
- askantik, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I applaud open source, but that doesn't mean I can do something on Linux that I can't do on Windows. At least it offers nothing that I would ever WANT to do that Windows can't.
- culbeda, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Yes. Yes it does.
- quadsixmafia, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1That "Dock" on the bottom looks an awful lot like leopard.
- adarkmethod, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1i just want to know where I can get that background
- pendrachken, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Yeah, cause WINE works with EVERYTHING...
WINE isn't 100% compatible yet, and you flaming windows users is about as smart as a windows user saying linux users are too stupid to use windows. Different systems are more comfortable for different people, none are "wrong" - pendrachken, on 07/26/2008, -1/+2@allyant
Sure, if you are either A: willing to pay to do it or B: willing to risk running cracked versions / keygens for the programs that can effectively skin windows. - thomsonr, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1I really like VIsta. I have it on all home computers (1 gaming computer, laptop, two childens computers on a wireless network). and my engineering workstation at work. I'd never go back. Ubuntu is installed on a separate partition for experimental purposes. It's great but each install takes a few days to get things straightened out. Most people do not have the technical knowledge to do this. Vista works fine right after install.
VIsta came installed on all my other computers and I broke down and bought the upgrade for my gaming computer ($200). I did the install trick rather than buy the full version. Guess I just got tired of installing hacks/cracks.
- tnoy, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1The look of the OS means nothing. These are people that want their GUI to look a certain way, but use Windows because they don't want to give up on the software compatibility that they're used to with Windows.
- Andytom, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1No most are on servers where having anything more than command line is a waste.
- grungegbunny, on 07/26/2008, -2/+3If the Ubuntu secret lover isn't really Ubuntu its a damn impressive mimic.
- aautopsy, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Stupid story, a lot of Linux users need windows for certain tasks so they keep their windows partition and their linux one. One of the screenshots even has the ubuntu partition sitting on the desktop.
