- DBeta, on 06/09/2009, -3/+27Linux can play games too, it just doesn't want to. It's too busy being cool and popular .
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/09/2009, -3/+23Well if certain BIOS manufacturers (American Megatrends, I'm looking at you) didn't purposely prevent Linux from access the ACPI properly, it would be able to hibernate just fine...
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/09/2009, -5/+24FrontPage is the best software ever!
- t0ny, on 06/09/2009, -1/+13It is amazing how Digg has changed. If its not Windows or XBox then bash the topic, or make a stupid comment.
- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -11/+22Notepad.exe is way better than vi.
- se7envii, on 06/09/2009, -7/+18MS Paint is the greatest image editor known to mankind.
- BalancingAct, on 06/09/2009, -0/+10I'm only interested in the practical advantages of Linux such as security, cost, and stability.
- tnoy, on 06/09/2009, -2/+12I've had to switch back to windows on my work laptop recently.
It only took saving a few files with a random :wq being inserted before I downloaded vim for windows. - krisrm, on 06/09/2009, -3/+13The abuse of the color "green" as a marketing tool really astounds me. I saw "green" branded Cheerios at the store the other day for $5 more than regular Cheerios, and honestly, this isn't much more impressive.
Well, I guess Linux is free. But I still like my Cheerios analogy... - netneutrality, on 06/09/2009, -1/+10Please don't give him the attention.
- MicrosoftBob, on 06/09/2009, -3/+12Internet Explorer is the most secure, standards-compliant browser in the history of the internet.
- Rudegar, on 06/09/2009, -1/+10linus is not from norway
- mooninite, on 06/09/2009, -1/+10I'm playing Sim 3 on Linux. I think it just came out last week? *gasp*
- MrRtd, on 06/09/2009, -1/+10Linus is from Finland
- Abyssul, on 06/09/2009, -3/+12So Linux will plant a tree for me each time I boot the computer?
- nullx42, on 06/09/2009, -8/+16[Any positive comment about windows at all in relation to this article]: Dugg, the, *****, down.
- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7Swearing is for teens.
Anyway, Everything is Happening in the Linux Community. If you're running windows and you're a little bit a hobbyist, then you are missing out big time.
I suggest you get Kubuntu and start listening to the many linux podcasts etc and get into the action.
http://thelinuxlink.net/ - warp99, on 06/09/2009, -4/+11No windows was created instead by an atheist who is a college drop out with a tendency to drive while under the influence. Talk about smurfs, check out this mug shot:

- FritoPendejo, on 06/09/2009, -1/+7You're speeding? That's not a very efficient use of non-renewable resources.
- GreenLynx, on 06/09/2009, -1/+7Actually, pirated music bypasses the need for compact discs and shipping therefore it is good for the environment.
- warp99, on 06/09/2009, -2/+8"Shame they can't get decent working power management on laptops."
Sorry, your Speak and Spell doesn't count as a laptop. - TylerDuhrdan, on 06/09/2009, -3/+9"Green IT is one of the hottest of today's technology trends"
Trend, all this green ***** is just a trend, I hate it. I will not purchase any products that use the terms "Green, carbon footprint, eco friendly, % less material, etc". Why cant companies just produce a more green product and STFU about it? overused marketing at it's finest.
And why now? couldn't we/companies done "green" and all this eco ***** 20 years ago? or are they buzzwords that might loose that cool factor in 5 years. - inactive, on 06/09/2009, -0/+5Galt, whats so bad about Linux users wanting to be good for the environment?
- morepowerr, on 06/09/2009, -0/+5Until people willing to start using hemp to make plastic, paper, fuel and so-on. Then don't talk to me about green SB.
- warp99, on 06/10/2009, -1/+6@TomKarpik
First of all nobody called you an idiot, you said that. Second is that hibernate has been a problem with this model with XP and Windows 7:
http://i.gizmodo.com/5133399/win-7-tip-sleephibern ...
http://forums.ncix.com/forums/index.php?mode=showt ...
So most likely it's a buggy BIOS. Linux has come a long way with power management features versus even a couple of years ago. It "just works" especially if you buy it pre-installed on a laptop. - warp99, on 06/09/2009, -3/+8" Linux usually hibernates just fine -- but then fails to come back."
That's because your swap partition is smaller than the installed ram. Hibernate stores an image at the time of shutdown inside the swap partition so it must be larger then the install ram.
If your swap partition is too small it's like trying to fit Kirstie Alley into a size 2 dress, it ain't gonna happen.
Edit: All my system resume/sleep just fine including hibernate - warp99, on 06/09/2009, -2/+6Dugg up for constructive criticism. Dugg down for the Linux nerds comment. So you're back were you started.
- pinchduck, on 06/09/2009, -2/+6You have better luck w/ XP than I did. My Inspiron 9300's favorite trick is to bitch about some driver or other when I try to hibernate it. Yeah, did something really crazy with the hardware: I installed more memory.
- warp99, on 06/10/2009, -2/+6"Anecodal evidence is anecdotal."
But for some strange reason your anecdotal evidence is somehow less anecdotal? - MattBD, on 06/09/2009, -0/+4@GaltShrugged
Unless you connect your iPod to your car stereo. - inactive, on 06/09/2009, -3/+6Yeah, it saves your comp ton of your computers energy by not resuming from hibernate/sleep, Unfortunately it doesn't save an of your energy when you have to redo all the work you just lost.
- PsychoBrat, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3I was disappointed to not see mention of LTSP ( http://www.ltsp.org/, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Terminal_Server ... ) anywhere in the article.
LTSP is, in my humble opinion, one of the best ways to make use of old hardware. - medeshago, on 06/10/2009, -0/+3"I was on the original programming team for it"
Yeah, right. - Meep3D, on 06/09/2009, -1/+4Lol, your right. Is 123bucklemyshoe using some sort of new subtle postmodern trolling style or something?
- Warom, on 06/09/2009, -1/+4I do expect to be dugg down, but I don't see how it is terrible at all. The font could easily be changed - just need someone to actually make a nice replacement font. As for the colour I think it isn't too dark at all, plus, many people like dark themes anyway - not only that, but make it white and it will be too bright, make it blue and people will complain that it is too Windows like or make it grey and people will complain it is too OS X.
- theaceoffire, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2^_^ my computer is installed inside a tree. The heat generated is funneled into the root system during the winter.
- justaboutdead, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2@tnoy, what are you talking about?
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2And now even comes with standards-compliance mode! *facepalm*
- MattBD, on 06/09/2009, -0/+2What's wrong with KDE4? And E17 offers a really cool desktop experience - try OpenGEU for a great E17 desktop.
- Mikey129, on 06/09/2009, -0/+2All trends end, Anyway Linux is all of a sudden "clean and green"?
- MicrosoftBob, on 06/09/2009, -2/+4I think of it as the Vista Backlash Syndrome.
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Whatever's convenient for your worldview, I guess.
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Jesus that looks ***** terrible
- MKdx, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1It's relatively easy to game a site like digg, it's easy to troll/digg-up or down. It's a matter of numbers even without contributions.
Compare with a site like Slashdot for example, and it's very unlikely to see this trend ever, simply because it's more difficult to troll visibly there as you can't mod-up or down freely. - explodingzebras, on 06/09/2009, -5/+6ubuntu linux suspends and resumes perfectly on my HP 6120 with no problems whatsoever. It is novell linux certified and uses intel chipset.
- huertanix, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Best way to reduce the need for mining is by not having to build new stuff all the time.
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/10/2009, -1/+2@TomKarpik
My IBM T60p with XP locks up every time I put it to sleep, and requires 3 reboots for it to be usable again. My Ubuntu machine on an Athlon 2500+ board does it flawlessly. So does my IBM X22 with Ubuntu. So maybe things are quite as you see them.
And for you EeePC, did you use the customized version, or the plain old Ubuntu install? Because there is a difference... - MicrosoftBob, on 06/09/2009, -1/+2People *are* willing, they just don't want to go to prison for the US government's staggeringly stupid marijuana/hemp laws.
- marx2k, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1One reason I can think of is it's less resource intensive as some other OSes. Therefore less need to upgrade in the same time span as you would with another OS
