- blooby, on 03/09/2009, -1/+13Why do people do this?
- RobotBuddha, on 03/09/2009, -0/+11Depends a bit on what one wants from an office suite. Personally, I consider it better. It meets all my needs, as does open office. But the big difference for me is that it feels responsive and unlagged. Though keep in mind that google docs comes really close to doing everything I need. So I'm hardly a heavy user. From what I've heard, koffice is a bit behind openoffice in features, but I can't really speak to that since I've not encountered anything I've personally missed.
It will be available for windows. Right now there's an ongoing port of the kde libs to windows, and that's the big prerequisite. I've heard that koffice 2.0 runs on windows, but it's a bit slow and buggy there. Which is to be expected, given that it's a beta port running on libs that are still in an alpha state on windows. I should note as well though, that I've not personally tried it on windows. The above is just from hearing others talk about their experiences. - superppl, on 03/09/2009, -2/+13I take it you're the kind of person who enjoys stabbing himself in the balls with an icepick.
- ilgaz, on 03/09/2009, -0/+10KOffice will be available in OS X, Windows too. It will work natively just like the rest of KDE 4.
- PinkyTheWinky, on 03/09/2009, -0/+8Apparently it has a much leaner modular code base making new development faster and less bug prone than OOo. It's not much now but once they have laid the groundwork it might really take off in terms of functionality.
I tried the windows version and it was slow and buggy to the point where it was barely useful. I hope the situation improves because applications like Krita show a lot of promise. Kexi also looks awesome as an alternative to MS Access. - RobotBuddha, on 03/09/2009, -0/+8That's great news. I'm almost to the point where I can finally have 100% kde or qt apps on my system now. The kde guys really are doing an amazing job, all around. Anyone know what the webkit situation is with konq? The webkit kio part is 'almost' usable, but just enough bugs to make it impracticle for everyday use. And I never seem to hear much about plans for it, while the development list for konq in 4.3 has a ton of other notes and improvements. Though arora is getting some kde love for the next release, so I'm hoping I might not have to keep looking to konq for native webkit use.
- KAMiKAZOW, on 03/10/2009, -0/+5You forget that KDE is an accumulation of many projects, while KOffice has a limited scope.
KDE 4.0 had to be released the way it was. The least ready part of 4.0 was sadly the most visible part: The Plasma desktop. It wasn't pretty, but there was so much stuff that was ready (games, libraries,...). It really boosted the development of apps for KDE 4.
I do firmly believe that without 4.0 the 4.1 and 4.2 releases had not become the great releases that they've been. - patpi, on 03/09/2009, -0/+5It is better than OO.org because:
- it has less lines of code which is more robust and clean
- it is really cross platform (one code, many platforms. not like OO.org port to Mac): http://mac.kde.org/ , http://windows.kde.org/ - brettalton, on 03/09/2009, -0/+4Some of us like S&M and some of us like to use computers... I'll stick with my computer thank you :)
- inactive, on 03/10/2009, -0/+4The KOffice team is doing a great job.
- skyshock1, on 03/09/2009, -11/+14Stabbing yourself in the balls with an icepick is better than Open Office.
- 4321234, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2But will it play starwars?
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -2/+4KOffice is the worse name ever, in my opinion. I suspect it's suppose to be read as "K-Office" but I've always said "cough-is".
But I guess "Open Office" is a pretty horrible name too. - Cupantae, on 03/10/2009, -0/+2^^ Miserable trolls ^^
You've got to have better things to do than this.
Try going out, maybe. Find love. Play sports. Get a job. - daftman, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2You don't do agile with open source. you don't have a time limit.
- Johnglave, on 03/09/2009, -2/+4Could somone please tell me why, it's better than open office? KOffice sounds cool though, and is it for Windows?
- Atomic1fire, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2there is an version available for windows, but it requires downloading the nessesary packages using the kde for windows installer

- snake1025, on 03/09/2009, -1/+2stupidity?
- patpi, on 03/09/2009, -1/+2Koffice 2.0 does not provide any support for tables in document so it is the same ;)
Please learn more about agile development here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_software_develo ... - morphie, on 03/09/2009, -3/+4The KDE desktop team should learn from this guys. Keeping their software beta untill it's actually ready. That's something different than releasing KDE 4.0 without even being stable at all.
- DefiniteFail, on 03/10/2009, -0/+1*****, just call it "Office" and I'll be happy, you can never be too simple. Well, you can but that's not the point.
- troubalex, on 03/10/2009, -1/+1Believe ill0gical, he knows what he's talking about! :D
- rpgmakr, on 03/09/2009, -4/+4*Koff Koff Koff*
*****' name. Can you rename it to something without a meaningless K. - Johnglave, on 03/09/2009, -2/+2Thanks everyone. I used Ubuntu for awhile but one day it just wouldn't boot so i ended up back with Windows. Thanks agian
- morphie, on 03/10/2009, -3/+2Well, there is only one reason for that: KDE 4.0 disappointed. So any improvement was obviously visible.
- ill0gical, on 03/10/2009, -4/+2hah!
- DefiniteFail, on 03/10/2009, -4/+1Please don't mention the "K", it's hard enough already.
- oscarolim, on 03/09/2009, -6/+2Usually because of their compulsive stupidity.
On topic, looks nice. Is not a replacement for open office, but for the casual user I think is more than enough. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -8/+3"Turn your head and KOffice" Ha ha ha.
http://linuxhaters.blogspot.com/2008/07/turn-your- ... - Azathothh, on 03/09/2009, -8/+3yay 1 more ***** Microsoft Office copy
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -7/+1You idiot! You forgot the most important feature. The name starts with a "K".
- laborcszanto, on 03/09/2009, -7/+1You'd think pirates would be discouraged right now with the trail going on, but they just keep stealing.
- Mareshalu, on 03/09/2009, -20/+4It's quiet in here... can you hear the echo? cho? ho? o?
