- HueyFreeman02, on 06/18/2009, -0/+18GIMP is so cool. I use it on Windows, and it's a great alternative to photoshop and it's FREE(i mean you could pirate photoshop, but hey, GIMP works just as well)
- anonymousmedic, on 06/18/2009, -3/+18GAP is selling BDSM gear now?
- grimacebrown, on 06/18/2009, -0/+14Improvements to GIMP? Dugg...
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 06/18/2009, -0/+12It also has a pretty small learning curve. After using pirated Photoshop for god knows how long.. The transition to Gimp wasn't bad at all.
- techtock, on 06/19/2009, -1/+10Search for "gimp-gap" in Synaptic or grab it from here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/gimp-gap
- rdvon, on 06/19/2009, -0/+9The entire idea of educating a bunch of students to use ONE proprietary product is ridiculous.
All paint apps have at least the same ideas (layers, filters, blur, tracing, etc.) Teach them that and they can apply it to anything. - Langford, on 06/19/2009, -0/+9Browsers that don't support MNP, don't display anything at all. Browsers that don't support APNG, at least show the first frame. It's a very useful trick in these days where IE throws random wrenches into otherwise nice new ideas. I think my favorite solution is to have support for both in every browser, but the reality is that IE will not support either format any time soon. In the meantime, APNG may be able to overcome MNG's disuse simply by showing that first frame.
- Andrewweber, on 06/19/2009, -0/+8Gimp is a great resource for educators as pirating is not an option and Photoshop may break the budget depending on how many licenses you need.
- BlackSheep882, on 06/18/2009, -0/+8As Langford said APNG support be awesome
- Langford, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7GAP has been so useful, nobody should have to live without it.
Now if only it would save to APNG, I could feel extra blissful. - zeebo, on 06/19/2009, -1/+7but there are gimp forks that are, even if they're based on older versions.
- neoquietus, on 06/19/2009, -1/+6APNG, while a useful trick, is not supported by the maintainers of PNG, because it goes against what PNG is supposed to do, which is store a single image. MNG is the animated version of PNG, and is what everyone who is using APNG should actually be using.
That said, MNG is not very popular for some reason and people seem to be dead set on using APNG instead. It will be interesting to see which side GAP chooses to support: standards, or popularity. - techtock, on 06/19/2009, -1/+6Wow. Buried for being helpful. That'll teach me.
- Vadi0, on 06/19/2009, -1/+5Ubuntu package?
- Raptor007, on 06/18/2009, -1/+5Anyone burying you has no sense of humor.
- ArthurSucks, on 06/22/2009, -0/+4It CAN be used for industry work. I've done it.
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -1/+41. Set an animated GIF as a tiled background image.
2. Toss in a few MIDIs and lots of blinking Comic Sans.
3. ????
4. PROFIT!!! - GimliGlider, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3as long as I can do things that I wanna do with Gimp without having to read its help files or take a week-long course, I could give a ***** less about weather or not it's industry-grade. Gimp On Windows™ user here. Thanks!
- Babazoz, on 06/19/2009, -0/+2Obvious, yet brilliant.
- Meep3D, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1All computer languages have the same ideas (classes, methods, variables, loops, branches) Teach them Basic and they can apply it to anything!
- zeebo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1I agree, but the reality right now is that for a lot of applications gif is good enough, and its still much better supported.
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -1/+2Looking forward to getting it.
- DontThinkSo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Or, try this link:
apt:gimp-gap
Edit: Well, go there in firefox. Digg just needs to auto-highlight apt urls... - Vadi0, on 06/21/2009, -1/+2I mean like, the new version.
Found it: http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=gimp+ani ... - KibibyteBrain, on 06/19/2009, -0/+1Why, so if you want to set up a little 10 second screencast or something you have to use an overweight video file or flash presentation? No thanks.
- ejtttje, on 06/18/2009, -2/+2Please for the love of god, DON'T use the animated gif export. I hate those things, especially for video. For little animated icons it's OK, but even then we should really push MNG or APNG to get decent transparency and color palette support.
- Cow194234, on 06/18/2009, -1/+1Should be cool!
- BrokenCircle, on 06/18/2009, -5/+4How about a plugin that will improve usability on newer versions?
- Vadi0, on 06/21/2009, -3/+1http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=gimp+ani ...
- anonymousmedic, on 06/18/2009, -7/+3It's ok. I wouldn't expect anything different from the Nazi-ish Linux Fanboy crowd.
If you can't laugh at yourself, you're very sad. - chongli, on 06/19/2009, -7/+2Educating people to use the GIMP? Talk about killing their job prospects.
- Dylson, on 06/18/2009, -7/+1Why is this news? I usually don't see stuff like this until late at night when there's nothing better to digg.
- alpha88, on 06/19/2009, -10/+3GIMP works just as well if you're just doing graphics for fun. It's not industry-quality.

What is Digg?
