what parallel world are you from? - Craga89, on 02/12/2009, -1/+8I'm a bit weary of them integrating ubiquity straight into the browser. I use it a lot and while it would be convenient for those of us who would install it anyway, those who do not wish to use it get bogged down with bigger overall file sizes on future upgrades / installs. But hey, I guess this is just another coin in the pond on the whole bloat issue...
Either way can't wait until 3.1 becomes stable, should be a great release. - sloppychris, on 02/12/2009, -0/+7Just installed 3.1 beta 3, haven't messed around with it yet but holy ***** it's fast!
I used these instructions for the linux version:
http://icehot.wordpress.com/2008/11/27/firefox-31b ...
Actually, if you know how to use custom repositories, instructions aren't really necessary. Here's the repo:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ubuntu intrepid main
Firefox is installed to /usr/lib/firefox-3.1b3, open firefox-3.1 and you're golden! - hungryduck, on 02/12/2009, -4/+10It's super sarcasm. I like it.
- AppleMacStud, on 02/12/2009, -0/+6I'm running the latest nightly of Firefox (Shiretoko) 3.1 beta 3 pre and so far so good. One of the bugs that I noticed would happen here at digg has finally been fixed. In 3.1 beta 2 for some reason after going to my Profile and then revisiting my comments it would always be invisible so that I couldn't see them. Now I have no problem viewing them. This may not have been the experience on Windows but this was definitely a bug on Mac OS X Leopard.
- CoqueRoache, on 02/12/2009, -0/+6Linux? The article doesn't even mention Linux..
- rossisdead, on 02/12/2009, -0/+5"bogged down with bigger overall file sizes".
The Firefox installer is currently 7 megs. I guess that'll bog you down if you're still stuck on a 56k modem, but in that case you should have bigger things to worry about than adding a few kilobytes to an installer file. - willy1234x1, on 02/12/2009, -1/+6Anyone running the Firefox nightlies for the past two months has been using 3.2a1pre so it's been planned for a while now.

please open links in a new tab - Pfkninenines, on 02/12/2009, -0/+4Might want to post in his comment. You're a bit out of place with where this comment is now ;-)
- manacit2, on 02/12/2009, -0/+4I was using 3.1 beta 2, just upgraded to 3.1b3pre or whatever it's called, works good so far :). All my addons seem to be working after I forced them too.
- Pfkninenines, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Glad to see they're moving along. Been testing the nightly and the beta out a little, but since certain sites need plug ins that only work on the stable build, I can't use them constantly. 3.1+ is gaining more optimization, always great for someone who is on the internet all day.
They've got a few new features that other browsers are getting / have had, including private browsing, java improvements, and a new control + tab feature to switch between tabs with a graphical representation. Hope they move this out of beta soon, I'd love to start using this full time. - pickture, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Why can't they do more planning ahead? Mozilla is an organization that needs more organization.
- ethana2, on 02/12/2009, -1/+4So ubuiqity is like gnome do, except in firefox?
- YourNameHere1, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3I've been using 3.1b2-PGO for a while now and it's been very fast.
- willy1234x1, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2Both.
- pwdrskier, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2the beta is really good so far as I can tell
- salous, on 02/14/2009, -0/+2The performance of Firefox in Linux just sucks. What sucks more is I cannot do anything about it. How sad. Hope that we will get a much faster Firefox 3.1.
- ethana2, on 02/18/2009, -0/+1http://isstevejobsdead.com/
- Nephersir7, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Thanks, but for my Webkit needs i use Chromium's last build. And that doesnt stop me from using Firefox on both Linux and Windows
- xptweakerntn, on 02/12/2009, -2/+3Either a supreme sarcasm, or a troll. I'm going for the latter. I guess someone has to feed trolls though, or else they would die.
- skate3214, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Dude you're the worst troll ever, give up.
- proton, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Was ubiquity that large of a download? I don't have a problem with it, it's potential hasn't even been realized yet.
- Fergy, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Ubiquity becomes 306KB with 7-zip and Firefox 3.2 trunk is 7.2MB so it would mean a 4% size increase.
- Knet88, on 02/12/2009, -1/+2What, a "MacStud" that isn't using Safari, or even Camino? Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.
- srg13, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1I actually prefer Firefox on Mac OS X. Make sure you grab the grapple theme though, because the default one is shockingly ugly.
- AppleMacStud, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1He might be if he were IN the grave...
- rakeshishere, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1</s>
He forgot to add sarcasm tag - pxmm, on 02/12/2009, -8/+7Ubiquity is an awesome concept, however is not as powerful or intuitive as I'd like it to be. Having a command line only interface just highlights the fact that the browser is not as task-oriented as it could be. I want object oriented and visual metaphors to do this stuff
- coldkill3r, on 02/12/2009, -5/+2I don't see how this makes any sense.
- vicsvenge, on 02/12/2009, -7/+3bleh. if you're on a mac don't even bother. Just get the webkit nightly builds. Much faster, and I've never had any serious compatibility issues.
I mean really. It's ridiculously fast. I noticed a huge difference between it and Firefox 3.1 beta. - Craga89, on 02/12/2009, -8/+3That's one of the better trolls I've seen today. Unless you're being serious... then :|
