- trogdoor, on 05/07/2009, -2/+5How exactly does Ubuntu abuse the community? And the Ubuntu project does contribute upstream, not as much as Fedora but IIRC they also have far fewer developers.
- mmcgrath, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3What does you using Ubuntu 9.04 have anything to do with Fedora 11 and DeviceKit?
- CptnObvious, on 05/07/2009, -1/+3I have to give props to the Fedora folks, they have been working on some cool projects that will help Linux adoption. Running Fedora 11 on my laptop and mediacenter right now and I am very happy with it.

- badot, on 10/09/2009, -0/+1can you explain more about DeviceKit?

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_PreUpgra ... - oranglama, on 05/08/2009, -0/+0Are there plans to allow users of Fedora 10 to upgrade online to Fedora 11?
- jdmulloy, on 05/07/2009, -2/+2Reading the article this looks like it's heavily Gnome based. I'm hoping it ends up being good instead of being another peice of crap like NetworkManager. Wicd is far superior, it is significantly smaller and the implementation is simpler, and it works better, it is more robust and reliable. NetworkManager makes everything much more complicated than it needs to be. Plus the NM website just looks like an advertising site put together by marketing people, there's no technical information like documentation and change logs.
- oomfoofoo, on 05/11/2009, -1/+1Because ubuntu leeches a lot of stuff from Fedora.
- explodingzebras, on 05/07/2009, -3/+2True although I have had some bad experiences with Fedora including the newest release, they've crippled media playback, and it just doesn't feel as slick as Ubuntu 9.0.4.
- ptFoe, on 05/07/2009, -5/+3at least they have a company that thinks a desktop linux market is viable
- cr0c0dile76, on 05/07/2009, -3/+0I agree it is impossible to play any media files that I normally use in Fedora out of the box. Although it searches for plugins automatically, just like Ubuntu, Fedora prompts you to pay money for the plugins, as if there are no free ones available. Ubuntu loads the free, and I mean cost to me, plugins when needed.
- jameson71, on 05/07/2009, -3/+0Both the contributions fedora provides and the contributions ubuntu provides are valuable. Fedora certainly provides more technical and architectural improvements to linux than ubuntu, but the polish that ubuntu provides in its distro releases is unprecedented. This is something linux has missed in the past despite its technical excellence.
- RandaII, on 05/06/2009, -15/+10Fedora has always supported the community and is always giving us new and great tools to use. Ubuntu develpers take note they give back to the community not abuse it.
- tbrotherofasis, on 05/07/2009, -6/+1Yeah, Ubuntu 9.04 really rocks. I am happy enough with it to stop looking for a better easy-to-use linux for my laptop.
- cr0c0dile76, on 05/07/2009, -7/+2I used Fedora for a long time. They always have some stuff fixed and new improved stuff in each new version. But there is also some stuff that was working that is now broken. I tried Ubuntu before and it was slow as molasses so I went back to Fedora. But the newest Ubuntu, everything works basically automatically, and much easier to use than even windows. It sets up my printer and scanner automatically and it works just by turning the printer on. With Fedora or windows I have to search for drivers and search the internet to find out I have to install hplipxx.x or whatever to get the thing working. Ubuntu 9.04 allowed me to install NVIDIA drivers with a few mouse clicks. With Fedora I can use a terminal command kmod installs the drivers but then updates my kernel and my sound no longer works. WTF? OK before version 10 of Fedora I would install the drivers with sh NVIDIA-Linux-xx.xx from init 3 and that worked good. But since they disabled root in Fedora it became a major PITA. I refused all updates in Fedora because I knew every major set of updates would break something. I am still new on Ubuntu but so far I have no complaints and I think it is headed down the right path.
