- diggerpleez, on 07/14/2008, -8/+101But I am already using Linux 8.04!!1
- evillawngnome, on 07/14/2008, -0/+72As exciting as this is, this is a really bad link. The site doesn't give ANY information about what's new in this version. Link either needs to go to a summary of what's new or the official kernel.org page.
- CrushThemTorg, on 07/14/2008, -12/+59"New Linux 2.6.26" as opposed to old Linux 2.6.26?
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -2/+46ObamaAppleFan is the second worst nickname I've seen.
the first was "WindowsVistaRules" - inactive, on 07/14/2008, -2/+41Solution to your troubles: Scrolling down.
Trust me it works much better than clicking, burying, and commenting - It can take up to a half-minute less time. - trollick, on 07/14/2008, -9/+47I'll stick with Linux 2.6.25. Linux 2.6.26 is such a resource hog and it is nothing more than Linux 2.6.25 plus eye candy. There is no reason to switch.
- appleofdischord, on 07/14/2008, -1/+37Your carrots are backwards.
- hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -6/+39They release new versions of Kernel periodically. These are really just incremental updates. I don't know how this made the front page.
- Icetype, on 07/14/2008, -4/+37Linux is for people who are too smart for Mac.

- Acglaphotis, on 07/14/2008, -0/+29Here is the summary from kernel.org: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux%2Fkernel%2Fgit%2Fto ...
And here is the complete changelog: http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog- ... - hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -0/+28What are you talking about? Mac OS X is just a dumbed down version of Free BSD. It runs hand picked software on hand picked hardware and is meant for limited set of uses. Not to mention that by running OS X, you are sodomized by a major corporation.
Linux is light years ahead of Mac OS X:
1. Runs on anything
2. More customizable
3. More choices for everything, from Kernel, to distribution to WM to mail programs.
Can you build Mac OS X from sources for a particular machine? Can you boot Mas OS X from USB and have it run in RAM only? Can you have a stripped down version of OS X without a GUI running a Mail, Web and File server? (I guess you could do that with BSD, but then that is not OS X). OS X is a bicycle to Linux's space shuttle, and you paid more for bicycle. - hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -1/+28Obama Apple Fan? You must be really suckers for Hype. I would not be surprised if you at some point in your life had an AOL account
- linuxwarz, on 07/14/2008, -1/+27obviously you fanboys are so computer illiterate that you cant even install Windows, let alone Linux, ... maybe that's a sign?
- MrViklund, on 07/14/2008, -2/+26OK? I thought there was going to be some kind of interesting article about the kernel describing what's new. Just a download location is not really interesting at all for most people.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 07/14/2008, -1/+24Hey look! 2.6.26. Everybody make a wish!
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -0/+22If you use NVidia + X11 you will probably find it a good idea to download the driver installer for the latest ones before you do this... Especially since NVidias website is now hard as hell to navigate in Links thanks to their automatic driver search.
- diegocg, on 07/14/2008, -1/+22The kernel locks were optimized years ago. They're a few rests of non-performance critical paths with BKL which they're removing now, nothing else.
- carlosguitar, on 07/14/2008, -0/+21kernelnewbies is always the best place to see the changes:
http://kernelnewbies.org/LinuxChanges - keyme, on 07/14/2008, -0/+20Oh, it's ON *****.
/s - ScottoGato, on 07/14/2008, -0/+18Good luck with life, ObamaAppleFan.
- JasonHaley, on 07/14/2008, -5/+23Well, as linux user I don't mind getting it on the frontpage because it's a good reminder to update (since I don't update automatically) ... Remember how Firefox had every beta go frontpage? or Window's Longhorn? There's no reason why Linux should be treated any different.
- tanuki0, on 07/14/2008, -13/+31This makes me wonder when Windows will finally update Vista back to XP.
- cdawzrd, on 07/14/2008, -0/+17whoosh
- Klowner, on 07/14/2008, -0/+17Wine runs Photoshop just fine now, and Nikon needs to document their raw format http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/raw-flaw. ...
- HonestAbe, on 07/14/2008, -4/+19Ubuntu is Linux, actually.
- JasonHaley, on 07/14/2008, -1/+15As funny as your post was, it actually offers a lot more in stability and may result in less resources being required. Here's a more readable list: http://www.wordarc.com/Alamir/2008/07/14/Linux_26. ...
- DteK, on 07/14/2008, -1/+15My friend, I think you missed the bus on this one. He is referring to FC9. It is you who looses 10 knowledge points, plus I will deduct 5 internets and now you have blacked out
- tHeSiD, on 07/14/2008, -3/+16and im Using version 9!
- diggmc, on 07/14/2008, -0/+13Dugg! This made me smile. Thank
- iofthestorm, on 07/14/2008, -0/+13Well, at least it's some tech news, on digg even.
- RadonPL, on 07/14/2008, -0/+13Installing a new kernel causes downtime because you have to restart the computer.
This article gives you an idea whether to compile this kernel or wait for x.1 which is usually higher quality.
I guess you use the stock Ubuntu kernel. - MavRevMatt, on 07/14/2008, -0/+12@tomd123, he's referring to Fedora 9 I presume.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -1/+12It most certainly is linux. uBuntu is a fork of Debian.
- waspbr, on 07/14/2008, -4/+15I never said that ubuntu is linux, I said that ubuntu uses the kernel on its newest release. ... I am assuming you are the one that buried my last post, I suggest you take that stick from up ur arse and lighten up a little
- hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -1/+12When I would install Windows, I would have all the drivers for my hardware, so hardware was not a problem. But it would take windows a whole day to install.
To install windows I would need to:
1. Install windows
2. Reboot
3. Input product key and more information
4. Reboot
5. Install a driver
6. Reboot
7. Install another driver
8. Reboot
.....
16. Get updates from Microsoft
17 Reboot
18. get updates from Microsoft
.....
25. Install anti-virus
26. reboot
27. Install office
28 . reboot
29. Install fire-fox
30 re.. actually I don't think that I need to reboot after fire-fox. I guess I am done at this point. Oh wait, WFT is VONGO
31. Remove VONGO
32. Reboot
33. Vongo still here, go to google to find a solution
34. Reboot.
35. Go into safe mode.
36. Missed my chance at reboot to go into safe mode reboot again
36. Uninstall VONGO
37. Edit registry
38. Delete link from start-up menu
39 reboot
40. Gaaaaa .. Vongo is coming back. Pull the plug
....
157. Finally no more Vongo
158. Remove HP game trial pack.
159. Remove useless Internet bar trial pack
.....
236 Done. - hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -0/+10@fritzek
Don't confuse AIM with AOL. AOL was a horrible ISP that in the early days of Internet would charge you by the minute when you could get Internet access for a lot less. They would send you software in the mail offering "free minutes" once you sign up, they would make it very difficult to leave. I heard from someone that when you log in to AOL, they would spam you with ads while charging you per minute so you would end up paying for watching their adds.
It was not all bad though. They would once supply me with free floppies and then with free table coasters. - MrViklund, on 07/14/2008, -1/+11What?
- neotrantor, on 07/14/2008, -1/+11you don't, actually
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9That is a ***** of driver support. And Hauppauge just got many of it's HD cards supported.
- DontThinkSo, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9*Whoosh*
- theOster, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9i've never installed osx, but linux is far easier to get installed, and ready to work than windows (straightaway, anyway). if something doesn't work in linux, then it gets a little dicier, but there's so much support out there that you jsut run a couple searches, paste some commands to terminal and you're all set.
- antobisco, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9 humor recognition failure
- matthekc, on 07/14/2008, -4/+13is this the one they have been optimizing all the the kernel locks on?
- Rocco03, on 07/14/2008, -0/+8I wish there were drivers for my GPU.
- wontstoptalking, on 07/14/2008, -1/+9Funny comment is funny.
- hamobu, on 07/14/2008, -1/+8Close. I use stock Debian kernel at home. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
- clickwir, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7Oh but things like The Onion and XKCD are ok? *****. Digg was built on tech updates like this, not fake news and unfunny comics.
- cutchyacokov, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7Don't say things like that Kamael. Some of us may not be feeling well. I, personally, threw up a little bit upon reading your comment. Snoogins.
- infiniphunk, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7"surprised if you at some point in your life had an AOL account"
