- kettlechips, on 10/18/2007, -2/+17Dear Linspire,
I cannot disclose the specifics, but your software violates approximately 400 of my personal patents. Please send me $200 for each copy of your software you sell to protect your customers. Sorry I am not able to disclose exactly what patents are being violated. - kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16In other words "please start using our OS again or I will lose my company"
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17He has quite the nerve making those statements after Microsoft paid him a lot of money to stick a knife in the back of Free software. Me. Carmoney (sic) doesn't belong in the Linux world and GNU/Linux would be hugely better without him. Linspire is a Microsoft subsidiary now. Buying fro them is paying to Microsoft.
- BigBadger, on 11/12/2007, -1/+13Carmony is like a bag full of dead kittens. You feel really sad, and your heart breaks a little, but ultimately you'll bury the bag and forget about it because it's just too disgusting.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Dugg for incredible analogy.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9 He does indeed..He's even decided (since the Microsoft deal.) Linspire can be on only ONE desktop per household!
I am a user of freespire, but over the last several months, my opinion of KC and his company has dropped like a lead balloon.
Right now I'm distro hopping and soon enough I'll have washed my hands of the 'Spire. Which is really sad, cause I honestly have to admit,I like this distro...But Ive learned ,as far as Linux goes,it's ALL good!
KC has pushed the envelope too far for me and I'm as disgusted with the direction the 'Spire is going in as I am with the direction Microsoft is going in.
It's time for me to cut the cord.
BTW,if you want to hear how some X-'spireians feel, check out what's being said on the Klikit forums:

it ain't pretty. - Theli, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Here's Carmony lashing out against Ubuntu:
http://forum.freespire.org/showpost.php?p=65738&postcount=3
It seems as if Carmony thinks Microsoft's has Ballmer's behavior to thank for its success, and tries to emulate it. - sloppychris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6On the other hand, some of my codecs are probably illegal.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5 It was about this time that he basically told peeps that if they could build a better Linux, they should..
That's how Klikit was born.
.He's alienated a LOT of the old timers and a lot of the newer folks as well. - avram2002, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Lindows' latest EULA "allows" installation on ONE, read it clearly, ONE PC. Looks like KC and the Sunshine Band got more MS than they let on.
- corevette, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6again? who ever used *spire?
- CuCullin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6His comments border on assinine. Red Hat and Canonical won't sign an agreement with a patent covenant. The other bits, interoperability, have been requested of Microsoft for some time - but MS wants their silly patent deal in there, and the distros just won't sign something about patents they don't believe is warranted.
I used to consider Linspire an excellent idea, and I was intending to try out Freespire, but that changed once the deal was signed. Now this? I smell failure. Good job Kevin, you've driven potential customers away. - iceschade, on 10/18/2007, -0/+3I tried Freespire, before this whole mess started. I was amazed and delighted when it automatically detected and configured my wireless card for me, where other distros had failed miserably (except Ubuntu). However, when this whole deal went down, I decided that, honestly, my wireless woes aren't worth sacrificing my morals and ideals to some sellout company who decided to side with Microsuck. So I switched back to Ubuntu, where I can also enable my wireless card rather painlessly, without worying about selling my soul to the Gates of Hell.
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Linspire = The new SCO.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 Thanks schestowitz...I appreciate the supportive thoughts.
So far,Ive tried PCLinux,Mint and Simply MEPIS ..(MEPIS would not boot up.) I have several others to try, with ELIVE being on my list, along with Klikit, which is based on
Kubuntu..I won't used Ubuntu cause I can't run as root if I need to and that sudo business is just a big bucket of stinking crapola.
And yes,I do want to put some distance between my desktop and KC and the sunshine boys..And I definitely want to choose a distro that won't be infused with Microsoft cooties at a future date. - kitpierce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's rather easy to enable a root login in Ubuntu and it's derivatives.
sudo passwd root
Check here for more info: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty#How_to_set.2Fchange.2Fenable_root_user_password - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 And don't be surprised if the name "Lindows" does not reemerge in the future.
I'm sure Microsoft has big plans for that little name.
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Waterrat, I hope you find a better home (distro). PCLinuxOS seems good, but Kubuntu or Ubuntu+KDE seem to be very safe from Ballmer and his gang.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1From the Freespire forum:
"The feedback that is derived from Freespire is greater than what occurred on Linspire (for example there are approximately 1500 new Forum accounts created every month)."

So somebody likes it! - darthchaosrspw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Linspire is a Microsoft subsidiary now."
More like a Microsoft front group. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Cool! I had no idea (obviously).
- awesomeface, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Kit already replied saying the same thing, but he's at 0 diggs. You CAN run as root.
I was personally waiting for sabayonlinux.org to implement Entropy (binary installs) but honestly, Kubuntu has a LOT going for it. And that kills me on the inside to say, as I prefer underdogs. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sabayonlinux looks good too...I'm gradually going to have a big ol' stack here of disks..
I root for the underdog too, which is one reason i started with Linspire..yes,i was a VERY insecure Windows user who wanted AWAY from Windows!
All of you are such a big help and it's ever so appreciated. - rasher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Instead of saying "So sombody likes it!" shouldn't it say something like "So spambots like it!"....
- davidbattley, on 10/18/2007, -8/+2I'm actual in favour of a more coparte and coprate conformist linux. i think it could have good befits it may bring in a high level of funding via investments and govement grants pehaps all the distro in the grey area are going to miss out on that but of course they could just legal copy all of the gpl'd code that is made. I don't think the breaking of patents of driver is morally because if you (the end user )pay for the hardware and the cost of the company developing the related ip is included in that price your just using a modifed devirative to suit your needs. you have paid for the right to use there ip though. your just breaking the ToE
