- argylesocks, on 11/14/2009, -2/+35I know 4 people (not including myself) who own Android phones. None of them knew it runs on Linux. They are however impressed by the devices and all were very interested and shocked to learn that they run on Linux.
- marx2k, on 11/14/2009, -6/+21It will be the fastest, safest Windows to date!
- earthforce1, on 11/14/2009, -3/+17I hope Google does a good job with their Chrome OS distribution. Let's give the Borg a real run for their money!
- archiesteel, on 11/14/2009, -0/+11I agree with your general sentiment, but you should know that Chrome OS is mostly Linux + web apps...
- mikedoth, on 11/14/2009, -0/+9Most don't know that Android is an OS and that its installed on different model phones.
- Aquinas315, on 11/14/2009, -5/+12Desktop != Netbook
- wejmahtin, on 11/14/2009, -1/+7this is win. i was worried about the whole spinoff of our laptops/desktops to lenovo, but they seem to be making great decisions.
what's with the two completely random google fanboi comments above mine :) - archiesteel, on 11/14/2009, -2/+7"rather than Microsoft using evil tactics."
It's a well-documented fact that Microsoft used to pressure OEMs into offering nothing but Windows.
MS no longer does that (in principle), but the damage is already done. Just talk to the BeOS guys... - realmike15, on 11/14/2009, -1/+6I want Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome all to do well. 4 large companies competing against each other for the best OS can only mean good things for us. Windows 7 was an amazing success that I don't think anyone saw coming. Snow Leopard was a nice improvement over Leopard, the performance is noticeable. Linux continues to be the safest OS you can use, and allows more customization than anyone else by a landslide. Finally everything I've seen about the Chrome OS has been fairly positive, and it's not like Google to do a ***** job on anything.
Go go competition! - CalcProgrammer1, on 11/14/2009, -1/+5Lenovo is awesome, just got a Lenovo S10 netbook (for a steal too, $200 from RadioShack) and it actually came with a quick-booting Linux distro as well as XP. It boots up really fast either way but the Linux distro has basic Internet stuff right there. I plan to put Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it soon. Good to see Lenovo pushing Linux to other markets than just netbooks.
- 4321234, on 11/14/2009, -1/+5Linux is a large company? Can I be CEO?
- Frostek, on 11/14/2009, -1/+5Back again, huh Lenovo..? :-)
- motang, on 11/14/2009, -1/+3This is pretty cool, I have been waiting this whole year for ARM based netbooks and they haven't come out yet. Hopefully next year.
- pinchduck, on 11/17/2009, -0/+2They sell Linux laptops.
http://www.system76.com/ - Bicep, on 11/14/2009, -0/+2My new Verizon Droid is friggin awesome!!
- aswinjohn, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1Wish they would support switchable graphics, harddisk Active Protection, fingerprint reader for their thinkpad line on linux first. :(
- rif42, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2I do not like the Lenovo netbooks because they decided to reduce the well established 1024*600 pixels resolution, to just 576 pixels in the height. 600 pixels is already quite little and to underperform that with 24 pixels less is annoying.
- Warom, on 11/14/2009, -2/+3I know this is kinda off topic, it is more to do with everyone always saying how Microsoft is evil. For example, isn't it more likely that the reason that Linux wasn't installed on many machines was because it wasn't easy enough to use (just look at ubuntu from a couple years ago) rather than Microsoft using evil tactics. In the last few years when Linux has become very user friendly we have seen loads of companies switch to Linux.
- depro9, on 11/14/2009, -13/+14I can't wait for Windows 8 it will have no problems unlike Windows 7.
- Malnilion, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2Two words, Google Video.
- solarwind24, on 11/14/2009, -1/+2Why would they be shocked to learn that it runs Linux if they don't know what Linux is?
- wejmahtin, on 11/17/2009, -0/+1i've used system 6, and system 7, but i've never heard of system 76.
- rohannes, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1(almost) dugg for the second comment on their site
- pinchduck, on 11/15/2009, -0/+1I don't know. I bought my T61 with SUSE on it, and felt good about supporting a Linux vendor. Then they dropped it from their lineup. Now it's back, but only for a netbook, not for power users. Next time I think I'll go with System 76.
- zanixmechanix, on 11/14/2009, -6/+6Trust me :)
- leinir, on 11/14/2009, -6/+3Well, arguably they aren't running Linux in the sense that we're used to it... All the many, many subsystems that we're used to simply aren't there. (xorg for example is one of the big missing things... a trap which, of course, nokia's maemo hasn't fallen into ;) )
