- ieure, on 07/02/2008, -0/+29A mental incompetent who invents filesystems. Good luck with that!
- ClassicQ, on 07/02/2008, -6/+33This whole situation is ***** up. A conviction in a murder case with no body, no crime scene, no reliable eyewitness and almost no physical evidence. No wonder he 'might' be going crazy, beside the fact that he seems slightly off to begin with. He turn down a deal from prosecutors before the trial began that would have had him plead guilty to manslaughter and reveal the location of the body in return for a 11 year sentence -- then the trial -- now this.
Yes there's lots of circumstantial evidence and some strange explanations on Hans part; his taking the stand likely did him in, as I don't know if that circumstantial evidence alone would be enough to expunge reasonable doubt. - there are lots of possibilities. While I tend to agree with the jury as it stands; no one knows for sure. I hope this doesn't turnout to be a wrongful conviction; if it isn't, he surely is mentally ill. As the saying goes, sometimes the truth can be stranger than fiction - either way this whole story is strange
- sproket, on 07/02/2008, -3/+22Like most OS developers.
- dondara, on 07/02/2008, -0/+19And somebody named "kookbutt" will lead them
- jflowers45, on 07/02/2008, -1/+19he's not the only one!
- djdingo, on 07/02/2008, -5/+24If you use Linux, you will become a murderer. Be on the safe side and stick with Windows.
-Bill Gates - saranagati, on 07/02/2008, -6/+23I vote we change the name from ReiserFS to MurderFS
- n0odles, on 07/02/2008, -7/+20They didn't find the body. A lot of innocent people goto jail. Most of the time it's your guilty until proven innocent. This is the ***** reality of our Judicial System.
- 4DFX, on 07/02/2008, -1/+12Wait, didn't he say he was going to show where the body is? What happened with that?
- angusm, on 07/02/2008, -2/+13If the insanity defense doesn't work, he can always move on to the "I think she was abducted by extraterrestrials" defense.
- glucoseboy, on 07/02/2008, -2/+13If you followed the case, the rest of the evidence is pretty damming.
- RadiatedAnt, on 07/02/2008, -4/+14If the linux devs are mentally incompetent, whats to say about the microsoft devs...
- Fergy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9"If he can get Hans Reiser to be found nuts, or if he can get Hans Reiser to be found almost nuts, he can be put in psychological setting, instead of prison. That's better," Horowitz said.
- robdiggity, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10No, it was damning.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9i will take the crazy house over prison anyday
- Ramble, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10It's not that difficult to imagine, a lot of Asperger's suffers are very clever yet nuts.
- Cybermaul, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Just an FYI, they're both UNIX variants. In truth, we see that Mac OS is pretty much one more distro of Linux with a spiffy, yet easily reproduced GUI. History FTW.
- claypool2008, on 07/02/2008, -2/+11I prefer StabbyFS. It sounds friendlier.
- Stroggoth, on 07/02/2008, -2/+10No, he means they stacked up the evidence and it blocked the small creek outside the courthouse. Damming.
- KyleGoetz, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8Sure, maybe there was reasonable doubt. Until he was on the stand for ELEVEN FREAKING DAYS with the prosecutor asking him questions and Reiser looking like he was making so much stuff up and lying to the jury and forgetting things and looking shifty and untrustworthy. Read the reports of eye witnesses at the trial.
God, his lawyer told him not to take the stand and Reiser told his lawyer to ***** off and he took the stand. Frigging crazy. - davecachia, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Mentally incompetent is a phrase that is only suitable for one person. Ted Rogers.
- GorfTron, on 07/02/2008, -4/+11A linux developer with a wife? That is a little strange to start with.
- drmobutu, on 07/02/2008, -2/+7He offered to tell them where the body was, after he was convicted...which indicates that he is indeed mentally incompetent, but still guilty of murder...
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5LOL, I can see the tech support phone call now;)
me - "ReiserFS deleted my file"
resier tech support guy - "Do you have any proof of that? If your file is gone, you can't prove that ReiserFS did it!"
me - "..." - IceOfDiamonds, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5he was declared mentally incompetent not intellectually incompetent. some of the smartest people out there are tards. just look at autistic kids, some of them can remember things from 40 years ago with crystal clarity and crack government crossword codes with bruce willis.
- fuze44, on 07/02/2008, -3/+8You Linux people scare me with your crazy, stabby ways.
- humanerror, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Prison, or the psych ward.
Where do you want to go today? - CaptainHarlock, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6I'm sure he knows how to break out of a chroot jail/prison.
- smitas, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5Isn't "Mentally Incompetent" = "Mentally ill"?
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4First he is innocent, and now he's incompetent?
I like Linux and I like his file system, but to me (and the court) it looks like he did it, and that is inexcusable. This guy needs to do some hard time. - humanerror, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4> kill -9
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -8/+11There are a lot of mentally incompetent people here on Digg
- Neph, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Article says, "The filing also means that Reiser does not immediately intend to lead authorities to the whereabouts of his wife's body in exchange for a reduced term"
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3If he is so incompetent, how does he develop one of the best file systems of all time? He knows what he did and how and why he did it.
- acrodev, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?
- daftman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2He didn't say that he was going to show. They suggest that to him so that he would get a lighter sentence. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!
- ieure, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Also, Asperger syndrome was named after Hans Asperger, whose name is an anagram of Reapers Gnash. Co-incidence? I THINK NOT.
- redcard, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Nice timing, doing this a week to the day before you are sentenced.
Couldn't have made a motion like this earlier?
Nope. Gotta do it the day before the day before a holiday. Let the judge think about it as he's having his cookout this weekend, etc. - KyleGoetz, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2@Tuik: If lying on the stand can be explained away by "oh, he's just a geek," we'd have a lot of psychopaths running around on the street (e.g., the unabomber).
- HappyScrappy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Well, there you go. Being an introvert has gone from just a personality to a syndrome (Asperger's) to a murder defense.
Not everyone who is different is defective. Don't let society or lawyers convince you of this. - inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Don't forget the name!
$ kill -9 wife
but what about the evidence?
$ cut body -f limbs > limbs
$ mv body [location]
$ mv limbs [location]
>____> - inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Watch out Pweegar. Stroggoth is known to be allergic to intelligence.
- tiuk, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1While I agree that he made himself look pretty damn guilty, all of the lying, shiftyness, forgetfulness, etc can be pretty much explained by his being a socially awkward geek.
- peppino, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Google map to the grave site. R.I.P. N.R.
http://digg.com/people/The_Trail_to_Nina_Reiser_s_ ... - wpyh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1This guy is retarded. Just look at his mailing list mails. And now this. Lucky I don't have to use ReiserFS.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Linux developers are actually developers, to start.
- tnoy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1He first found her in a mail-order bride catalog, so it still fits.
