- Modestexcuse, on 12/15/2007, -0/+26It would be hilarious if a few hundred thousand of us just kinda showed up casually.
- DEFSMAC, on 12/15/2007, -1/+26will there be cake?
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -2/+211,800 years too late. Bummer :(
- lemur, on 12/15/2007, -0/+17I love the KDE project, even though I am a GNOME user most of the time (I do however use several KDE apps with severe dedication). I am congratulate them for the amazing work they do on improving the usability of unix on the desktop. Keep up the good work!
- extant59, on 12/15/2007, -0/+10thats my birthday! that'll be worth going to. :) well for that and the chicks... wait.. there will be chicks right?
- aseigo, on 12/15/2007, -0/+9a) because MacOS is proprietary software, and that matters to a lot of people
b) because MacOS has its flaws as well, making it not the best system for a lot of people
c) KDE4 apps run, natively, on MacOS. during the keynote at the event, there will be a live demo of this. which makes your off-topic "negative evangelism" posting rather nonsensical, as it isn't an either/or situation at all. you can use MacOS if (a) or (b) don't apply to you and still use KDE apps. why would you? because there are KDE apps that are simply better than anything else out there in their category. enjoy. - keyo, on 12/15/2007, -2/+10***** off you whore, get a life and stop spamming.
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+8Did I hear 'Free beer'?
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6I don't want to pay 300% more for a shiny label.....
I go to PC shop, Buy the bits I need and go home and make a PC, Install Linux and I am happy! I can't go to a mac shop and not get ripped off....Same hardware, almost and triple the price...then I have to pay a weeks wage for the OS....meh! You can have your bleeding MAc - nailer, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6- Because having to restart my entire computer for Software Update on my Mac was annoying.
- Because I like being able to update all my apps at the same time.
- Because I like having Firefox, Pidgin, Deluge and Evolution out of the box, rather than Safari (which has problems with some sites), iChat (which doesn't work will all networks), Apple mail (which doesn't do vertical preview) and, er, nothing.
- Because OS X can't be changed to suit me as much as Linux can
- Because NetworkManager uses less clicks to log into wireless networks than the OS X equivalent, and shows me the strength of all avaiable networks with a single click
- Because the screen resolution on this HP was far better than the more expensive MacBook (Apple charge premium prices to non-US customers). The HP won a Red Dot design award, the Macbook didn't.
- Because the Mac doesn't have a decent native app to open OpenDocument files

- chess007, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5Nah geek/nerd event = sausage fest. I say that as a nerd. :)
- keyme, on 12/15/2007, -1/+6I live on the other side of the planet, so I guess I'll miss that one. I'd still love to see diggnation make an episode at the Googleplex, though.
- aseigo, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4there will be an event in Berlin on the same day, you could go join that one. we're hoping to live stream the keynote so people can watch it around the world at these events, too! =)
- cheesejaguar, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4I probably do have no excuse... I live 10 minutes away from Google, and school wont be in session.

- Brkwtzandrew, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4The more important question is...Will the cake be from Microsoft?
http://valleywag.com/tech/ie/ie-to-mozilla-let-the ... - fotoman, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3I've been a KDE user since version 1.0 when I compiled it for my Sparc20 back in 1998(yes, you had to compile it back then...). Kinda funny, they keep adding new features and I keep stripping it back down to the basic functionality I was using 9+ years ago. Well, not completely, but close ;-D
At my new day job, they gave me an Ubuntu box and within 2 days I had to get rid of Gnome and get KDE on there. Love lots of the Gnome apps, but other than that...no thanks.
Looking forward to several of the new backend improvements in 4.0. From what I've heard 30-40% less memory usage. Screw the UI changes, I want the memory savings :) Submitted my registration 2 days ago, should be fun. - KAMiKAZOW, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3You're an idiot. If you had paid attention then you'd know that all those cool KDE 4 apps are in the process of being ported to Mac OS X (actually the new music notation feature in KOffice 2 was developed entirely under Mac OS X).
I like my Mac and I like Mac OS X, but it's sad that after the release of iTunes almost every music player developer stopped coding. Now we have iTunes (it's OK, but not awsome), VLC (cool for movies, but crappy for music), and Songbird (promising, but currently slow and buggy). With KDE for Mac and the recent commit of a QuickTime-based backend for Phonon, we'll get Amarok.
KOffice and Kontact on Mac are also welcome additions. - rupertmorris, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4I don't use KDE at all (or even linux, recently), but I'm pretty stoked about KDE 4 and it's advances. I suspect they will gain a lot of Gnome users. Kudos to them!
- ScottyWZ, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3Wow, I didn't know they had computers in the year 200!
- mossblaser, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3Really? You'd be laughing for days when the internet just disappeared, not to mention your bank not allowing you to take out money cos the computers were down, and then watch as everything got better as the windows sys admins reach for the mice and go "arr - there's ur problem! no mouse!"
- KangoTraveler, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2hmmm I'm tempted to go and crash the party if there was lot's of free beer.
- lilricky, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2Another site that didn't configure wordpress to survive a digging..... When will they learn???
- aroedl, on 12/15/2007, -1/+2Can't afford the flight from Germany... :-(
- aroedl, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I'll be there!
- KAMiKAZOW, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1"Why should I spend a load of money on a Mac when my Dell runs Kubuntu?"
Is this a honest question? I assume it is and I'll answer it. I'm a Mac user as well as a Linux user and so I think I can give an un-fanboyish answer.
Both platforms have their weaknesses and strengths. Linux's strengths are obviously its price and its flexibility.
Mac OS X is really easy to use. Power management, suspending, etc. all work very smooth. The new iChat looks nifty. If you are an average user who wants to do "digital lifestyle thingies" then iLife is probably unmatched.
Pro users benefit from commercially supported software like Adobe Creative Suite. Due its Unix underpinnings even Mac OS X offers a good deal of customizability (of course not as customizable as Linux).
Mac hardware is usually well manufactured.
Everybody should use the platform that servers him/her. Linux is cool and Mac OS X is cool as well. - MattBD, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1Why should I spend a load of money on a Mac when my Dell runs Kubuntu? Amarok is a far better media player than iTunes, Konqueror is a truly excellent file manager and I have Firefox for serious web browsing. This in an OS which is far more portable than OS X and is completely free to download! Plus, there's a repository packed with additional free software just crying out to be installed. What possible reason would I have to buy a Mac?
Besides, when has a Linux user EVER said "You know, I think I might switch to a Mac?" when badgered about it by a Mac user? - HonoredMule, on 12/15/2007, -1/+21,807 years and 11 months.
