- HerbertScrunge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+38It's probably worth pointing out that many of these images are in fact *mockups* drawn from http://www.nuno-icons.com/images/estilo/ and not "screenshots", so we don't know how well the final KDE4.0 release will live up to them.

There is a KDE4 LiveCD based on SUSE, with the snapshot from September 13 (even more recent than Beta2). You can download it from http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live and burn to a CD/DVD. Be aware though that it's still quite unuseable, with lots of bugs, but it's a great preview for you to see how things are going!
- puelocesar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Half of them are just mockups, from que link posted by HerbertScrunge, and the other images are from Ars review, and are already 20 days old... almost 1 month...
so, nothing new to see here - m0tbaillie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15If they're mock-ups, and not actual screenshots, then why the hell is the page entitled "KDE 4 beta 2 *screenshots?
Just curious... - slowsloth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8'cause some people are clueless?
- ZeeO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+834 diggs and website is dead
clap clap clap - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7if kubuntu looks like anything like that then i might switch my old laptop to it permanently. I know its shallow but i am eyecandy whore. :p
- rova, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I hope its better than the screenshots. What is it with UI developers burning screen real-estate at the moment?
- TGMD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I want NOW!
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Not sure why you're being Dugg down, the LiveCD is one of the easier ways to experience it right now. Like you said, it is still very buggy and not especially usable, but it does give a very good idea of where they're going, especially with the Desktop Toolbox (which is turning out to be pretty cool).
- sirsteveh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's because they didn't actually use thumbnails. They have HTML-scaled versions of each full "screenshot" on the page (it's working, just slowly. Refresh a couple times) - so even if users would only zoom in on 2 or 3 screenshots, they download them all...
- antitab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Right, so I'm a big fan of the work being done on KDE 4. It's going to be a great release -- possibly the best Linux desktop yet. I love the Oxygen project. But there are some things that just aren't done well and don't fit in with the high level of polish of the rest of the project. The calendar, for instance:
http://www.nuno-icons.com/images/estilo/image247.p ...
It looks like *****. It's basically a bunch of rects, some with a basic two-tone gradient, and some text. Compare to the Dashboard calendar widget:
http://www.imamac.com/images/widgets/widgetmain1.j ...
Bevels in the appropriate place. No garish or overly-simplistic gradients. This should be the way it's done. - agunos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4that's freaking beautiful
- mobilitatis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They should hire a designer once for all
- elvenseven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The site got wordpress'd
- cg0def, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Well for starters they have 20+" screens with quite high resolution so real estate is hardly an issue. However if you are one of the suckas stuck on a 15" laptop with XGA resolution then it becomes a problem. And this is really nothing new as even windows has a problem with that ( and I'm talking about XP not Vista ).
- resplence, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Everlasting loading.
- cg0def, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2there are a couple of mock ups but they are more of what a theme will look like. Quite a few of the pictures are actual screenshots of beta 2. But it still has quite some rough edges like missing icons and stuff. KDE 4 will be awesome although you might have to wait until 4.1 comes out before you get the full experience. Regardless 4.0 will still look great but you really have to wait until December.
- freebit50, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Wow! It is very pretty. :)
- Critux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Websites suffer from DDoS attacks so early these days.
(Digg Denial of Service Attack)
Edit: It seems to be working - just taking ages to load. - oakleaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know where to get the gorgeous wallpaper used in most of the screenshots, please ?
The one with blurred grass. - AntiTheist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thanx Critux
- T8erT0T, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Broken link. This womps.
- burke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1GNOME is the antithesis of usability...
- iatealitlebabie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2anybody got a mirror?
- morphie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And they want to release by december? Better hurry up implementing those mockups then. Especially the font-rendering the mockup uses.
- ptFoe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1They need to work on the spacing between the controls.
- kdrlx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3____C_O_O_L____
- darkNiGHTS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1They need to make it look like the mockups.
- keyo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I was having a depressing day, looking at these pretty shots cheers me up. Oxygen icons are nice. Just wish they'd up the contrast and provide a prope titlebar for windows.
- wilhel1812, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Oslo! that's where i live! :p
- fumblr, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0The actual screenshots look like crap if only the mock-ups were what it actually looked like, at least they're good at making mock-ups.
- MrObjectional, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Vista much?
- samsara1981, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0I hope the final release is better than this - the usability really sucks. It's all form over function.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1LOVE WATERMELONS!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2looks crap, trying to rip off the slabs of polish aluminium in Leopard, but then covering thme in horrible tacky controls. Those menus are so dumb
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1you really should, it kicks the ***** out of Linux and Windows
- Philbert, on 10/10/2007, -14/+2Why is anyone excited again? It looks like an old version of Mac OS, like OS8 or something, only with updated icon graphics. Of course I haven't used a mac since OS7.
- smitjel, on 10/10/2007, -17/+2KDE looks like they're trying too hard. Gnome is so usable...these screenshots/mockups don't make me even want to try it.
