- MrViklund, on 11/27/2008, -0/+20Impressive. KDE is the future of Linux desktop.
- kragil, on 11/26/2008, -0/+19Looking good.
They should really code name 4.2 "The Answer". - stolemybike, on 11/26/2008, -0/+19Wow. Using it right now. Amazing, amazing work KDE. Made all the better by the fact that amarok 2.0, and koffice 2.0 are just around the corner.
- amfantasy, on 11/27/2008, -0/+12When is this going to hit fedora-testing, I can't wait :D
- jernejovc, on 11/27/2008, -0/+10I'm just testing this beta of KDE with the Live CD you can get here: http://home.kde.org/%7Ebinner/kde-four-live/ The improvements over the current stable version are really huge. Kudos to developers for such a great job. With such a great speed of development I can imagine how much more KDE 4 will advance with version 4.3.
- dualscreenman, on 11/27/2008, -1/+6There is a group people who specifically focus on KDE. It's called Kubuntu. We would very much appreciate it if you didn't insult our packages without giving examples. While there are some unfortunate issues with Kubuntu Intrepid, (flaky NetworkManager, bluetooth doesn't work) the Kubuntu team stands behind our KDE packages, which *are* good even if the software above it is of questionable quality.
Back in the day of KDE 4.0.x we did have a lot less people working on the releases. I remember when nixternal spent half a week after release getting packages ready to throw out the door. If I remember correctly they were quite flawed as packages due to the understandable circumstances and he ended up uploading a lot of updates in a short time, eheh. But now we have a team of 3 or 4 regulars packaging our KDE releases with improved QA.
I mean, if you absolutely need bluetooth then by all means, Intrepid sucks. But if you just want to try KDE 4.1 Kubuntu is a solid choice for that. If you would like to claim otherwise, you had better have the bug reports to back the claim up. ;-) (And they better not be upstream bugs either ;D) - freefm, on 11/27/2008, -0/+4When it comes out, would Ubuntu base with stock KDE 4.2 be a good combo?
- Tsiolkovsky, on 11/27/2008, -3/+7So far Ubuntu packagers didn't do the best job when it comes to KDE 4 packages. Their focus on GNOME almost exclusively shows. I hope this changes in the future and then maybe it will be a good combination. Until then other distributions like Mandriva, openSUSE and recently even Fedora are probably the better choice if you would like to try KDE 4.
- stolemybike, on 11/27/2008, -0/+3Well considering the Release Candidate of 2.0 just came out ( http://amarok.kde.org ), it should be very soon.
- jadrian, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1Can't comment on Ubuntu.
If you try it and are not happy with it, I recommend openSUSE.
Have heard good things about Mandriva too. - Rememberthe0511, on 11/27/2008, -4/+5Dude.. Dude.. Dude... Amarok Owns me. When does 2.0 come out?
- baqtor, on 11/27/2008, -0/+1Any repos to try this on Ubuntu 8.10?
- amfantasy, on 11/27/2008, -3/+1Ubuntu and KDE are never a good combo. It could be the bad memories from the KDE 3.5 days maybe they cleaned up since KDE 4.
- Rememberthe0511, on 11/27/2008, -11/+1Dude, I have been useing GNOME for years now and I think it's a lot better. I just love the way that it Cookie Monster!!!
