- dualscreenman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26I didn't think KDE 4 would be shipping with Kubuntu.
- nixternal, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27We aren't shipping KDE 4 with Kubuntu in Main. We do however have the packages available in the Universe repository. We will release the Beta 2 packages on the day of the KDE Beta release. I do believe we will start working on a Kubuntu LiveCD with KDE 4 once it starts to stable out a little more. Hopefully start with Beta 3 possibly. Don't count my word on that just yet though.
- amfantasy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19isn't this story alrea.....oh look, it says Ubuntu
dugg up - patpi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Longhorn wasn't delayed 2 months but 3 years! :|
- Jibberwalk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Really buddy... really? You can't possibly be serious. I can't even follow the train of thought that is required to make such a statment.
Locked, blocked, and digging down. - schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13It'll be ready when it's ready. Why rush it? It's worth waiting for.

- jshabad00, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8"KDE 4.0 final is due to be released one week after Gutsy, we should make packages available on the day of release and create an unsupported remastered Gutsy Live CD with the KDE 4 packages hosted on kubuntu.org."
So, yes and no. - Sabretou, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Kubuntu Gutsy wasn't going to include KDE 4 anyways...
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wtf.
- Theli, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar company. Considering that, I think the 2 months versus 3 years comparison is fair.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Dugg down, reported, and blocked. No need for the N word, we're past the 1950's bud. I think most of us here realize skin color has no bearing on who a person is, and that word is irrelevant and immature.
- dsn0wman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5After installing the first beta that felt more like an alpha I had a feeling they were falling behind. Anyway I think this is to be expected with such an ambitious project.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Longhorn was a full operating system and not a Desktop environment alone.
- regeya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is good news. I don't want to see 'em rush to try to reach an arbitrary date. As long as the packages will be available, I'm happy, and I'm sure most KDE proponents using Ubuntu won't mind downloading Universe packages to get to it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the major overhaul of KDE, and I'm guessing this will be a huge improvement over KDE3, which wasn't all that bad but was always a bit cluttered and suffered from long-standing bugs. And finally, I'm looking forward to having Dolphin be a true integral part of KDE. Nautilus and Thunar are great filemanagers, but Dolphin is outstanding. - phinn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Sucks, but a lot of us knew it would happen. Lets face it, KDE 4 will be worth the way, and I have a feeling it's going to pretty much blow away everything else out there. This will give it time to get some of the initial release bugs out of the way for Kubuntu 8.04 which should be one hell of a release.
One of my big complaints about Gnome is that it always felt "sluggish" when drawing windows, like resizing them or opening new ones, it always felt like the redraw was choppy. Like opening a new tab in Firefox or resizing Pidgin is just bad. KDE3 and (gasp) WinXP always are a lot faster. In terms of load times Gnome has always been very competitive though. And yes I have a very modern computer with the right drivers installed. But anyway...
KDE4 is gonna be a great release, good luck to the team. - psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2blocked, dugg down and reported for being offensive
- bruenig, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Discrete release model gets shown again how inferior it is to the rolling release.
- bsander, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For a huge overhaul such as KDE 4.0 you're right, it won't work. However, I think it would work great for point releases (KDE 4.x).
- dualscreenman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2anicejew's legacy continues?
- computerdan000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Agreed. I installed it in a virtual machine to review it, and it seemed like half of it was held together with Scotch Tape
- Youssif, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2So what ? They can ship Kubuntu with latest stable version of KDE, let's hope that KDE 4.0 worth all of the waiting !
- mossblaser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0PCLOS is getting there but I dont like it over all - i prefer openSuSE any day!
- mmcgrath, on 11/02/2007, -4/+3Dear Shuttlesworth, perhaps now you realize why brining multiple Open Source projects to a common release cycle won't work and is on all accounts..... a dumb idea.
- mossblaser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Sad to see KDE dev. being slow however in my opinion Kubuntu is the worst possible implementation of KDE I have ever used (I used it for about 3 months and then switched to SuSE, then to Ubuntu.) It is slow, unreliable, different to a standard KDE desktop and random things have been "simplified" - the "ubuntu" spirit of KISS is being spread, over aggressivley and worse, incompletley, into KDE which is a terrible shame.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Not on /g/. we do this only on /g/.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Whats wrong? Are you gay. If yes the Macs topics are thats
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2I hope your family die of cancer.
- MegaHyster, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Spam spam spam spam lock and block
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0And I highly doubt Kubuntu Hardy (LTS) will have KDE 4, even if it is "stable".
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -15/+6Funny you say that now. When Longhorn was delayed / cancelled, it was due to Microsoft's incompetence, wasn't it?
